was too much for her how ever in some places she emerged from her too static delivery to re veal some very fine moments of dramatic intensity nevertheless on the whole she eclipsed the sense of the embryonic un-com plexed genius torn between reality and romanticism the most honest performance in the whole cast was given by john franks as boze hertzlinger he played with an excellent grasp of his role the seduction of gabby which might have easily developed into crudity was done with a nice balance of delicacy and animal passion the role of the minor characters were within the collegiate scope and were very well played ann ellis as the socalite who lost all her inhibitions with several shots of liquor was excellent harry gun nison played his part with pro fessional ease by james k binder the admittedly difficult roles in robert sherwood's petrified for est prevented the non-profession al cast of mustard and cheese from delivering a performance of fine calibre friday night it seems too bad that an inferior production should follow the very excellent rendition of winterset the demands on the actors were very great and unfortunately they failed to meet them the actors in general missed the delicate nuances of the lines and the climaxes were either com pletely ignored or under-played the love scenes between gabby and alan appeared to be done without a grasp of the strange elec tric love that sherwood intended in his lines the interpretation leaned to the on-the-surface side malcolm carrington as alan squire was clearly mistyped he gave the impression of struggling with a death was by suicide study worries^blamed hastings w watkins i e 41 died sunday afternoon from injur ies received when he jumped from the third floor porch on the east side of delta sigma phi he suc cumbed at 2:35 p m in st luke's hospital where it was found he had sustained a broken neck fractured skull and several broken ribs according to the report of cor oner w calvin nickel death was by suicide an empty iodine bottle was found on the landing from which watkins leaped a regional scholarship winer watkins appar ently worried about maintaining his scholastic rating his mother younger brother and an aunt arrived on the campus shortly after the accident to attend delta sigma phi parents day watkins home is in barahona dominican republic and his moth er had not seen him for two years the group was rushed to st luke's immediately upon arrival they reached watkins bedside a few moments before he died taken to hospital watkins was discovered uncon scious by a fraternity brother charles b cole ch e 41 who will discuss writing the lead and charles f kalmbach m e 41 who will give some newspaper style hints to lead discussion during a round table discussion of editorial writing newspaper style hints herman j baumann bus 39 will discuss writing the lead and the paramount business service will give a demonstration dale h gramley associate pro fessor of journalism will preside over the conference of faculty ad visers during which dr alan o dech former director of curricu lum revision 61 the pennsylvania department of public instruction will speak on the state depart ment of
