lea ses must be on file at the bursar's office with the necessary deposits of 10 each symphonic teachers and has re cently astonished swing addicts by playing the solo part in mozart's clarinet quintet although goodman is a real stu dent of classical music and has won acclaim for his renditions of symphonic classics his true love and his favorite hobby is swing at a loss for a better way of denning this thing called swing goodman merely describes it as a simple state of ecstasy swing can mostly be traced to the musically illiter ate but inordinately gifted negroes at the beginning of the century who not knowing how to read mu sic had to make it up as they went along when the musically talented whites who possessed feeling and imagination became attracted to swing they lifted it to new heights and goodman was the leader of this group today benny goodman is riding the crest of the wave in popularity and performance behind him he leaves an ever increasing enthu siasm a host of very thoroughly shattered traditions and many years of colorful experience for his future there seems little to fear from the many bands who copy goodman's style for they make him appear all the greater this is the man who will hold forth at dorney park in an effort to satisfy the lehigh jitterbugs and to con vert the remaining few conscien tious objectors benny goodman the man who packed them in the staid and red brick carnegie hall last year who caused near riot in the metropoli tan theatres at which he appeared and who will play a mighty big part at houseparty next month has colorfully and legitimately earned for himself the title pied piper of the jitterbugs this man goodman is the one mostly responsible for making swing the free-for-all rhythm born in the jungle nourished in the gin joint and worshipped from park avenue to the golden gate america's official contribution to the world of music his sheer abil ity and technique and the enthusi asm that his music has inspired in his many followers have made both swing and goodman tops when it comes to rhythm and they'll both be at dorney park on the 21st of april it is not at all surprising to note that goodman's entire life has been a life of music — not all of it swing but music just the same while benny was still attending high school in chicago he with four of his pals formed a dance band all five are top swingsters in the coun try today at 16 he and his clari net were featured with ben pol lack's band and he has played that same instrument with isham jones red nichols johnny green and paul whiteman he learned harmony and counterpoint under lehigh university brown and white maj carter collins to be transferred member intercollegiate newspaper association z 612 all the lehigh news first

quintet although goodman is a real stu dent of classical music and has won acclaim for his renditions of symphonic classics his true love and his favorite hobby is swing at a loss for a better way of denning this thing called swing goodman merely describes it as a simple state of ecstasy swing can mostly be traced to the musically illiter ate but inordinately gifted negroes at the beginning of the century who not knowing how to read mu sic had to make it up as they went along when the musically talented whites who possessed feeling and imagination became attracted to swing they lifted it to new heights and goodman was the leader of this group today benny goodman is riding the crest of the wave in popularity and performance behind him he leaves an ever increasing enthu siasm a host of very thoroughly shattered traditions and many years of colorful experience for his future there seems little to fear from the many bands who copy goodman's style for they make him appear all the greater this is the man who will hold forth at dorney park in an effort to satisfy the lehigh jitterbugs and to con vert the remaining few conscien tious objectors benny goodman the man who packed them in the staid and red brick carnegie hall last year who caused near riot in the metropoli tan theatres at which he appeared and who will play a mighty big part at houseparty next month has colorfully and legitimately earned for himself the title pied piper of the jitterbugs this man goodman is the one mostly responsible for making swing the free-for-all rhythm born in the jungle nourished in the gin joint and worshipped from park avenue to the golden gate america's official contribution to the world of music his sheer abil ity and technique and the enthusi asm that his music has inspired in his many followers have made both swing and goodman tops when it comes to rhythm and they'll both be at dorney park on the 21st of april it is not at all surprising to note that goodman's entire life has been a life of music — not all of it swing but music just the same while benny was still attending high school in chicago he with four of his pals formed a dance band all five are top swingsters in the coun try today at 16 he and his clari net were featured with ben pol lack's band and he has played that same instrument with isham jones red nichols johnny green and paul whiteman he learned harmony and counterpoint under lehigh university brown and white maj carter collins to be transferred member intercollegiate newspaper association z 612 all the lehigh news first |
