speaker social relationship love and marriage will be the subject of the brown and white-sponsored talk to be presented by dr valeria hopkins parker at 8 p m thurs day dec 1 in packard auditorium the title of the talk has been changed from the previously an nounced courtship and marriage the talk is being sponsored by the lehigh paper to emphasize the suggestion of its editorial policy that a course should be started on marriage problems the speaker is director of the bureau of marriage counsel and honorary president of the national council of women she is also chairman of the committee on protective care for the new york world's fair and is the author of a book entitled social hygiene and the child she is a frequent contributor to the parent-teacher magazine and other periodicals won bishop medal on june 13 of this year dr parker was awarded the bishop medal the first to be presented to a woman for distinguished service in the field of social hygiene by miami university she was cited as a woman who has thought her own thoughts and pioneered in promoting better living through a wider understanding of social hy giene dr parker has been recommend ed by dr m a bigelow of colum bia university as having a rare combination of medical knowledge acquaintance with human nature in many of its phases and a great ability as a public speaker students may express their de sire for and in lab an artificial telephone line equivalent to about 200 miles which will be used for research study of communication and power trans mission will be put into service within a few weeks in the com thur s mickley e e 40 the materials for the set-up were do nated to the school and the sys tem was calculated by george w klingaman e e 38 now a re search fellow over half of student body warned ; engineering frosh lead list valentines were sent to 935 of the 1837 registered students it was announced by dean wray h congdon today those receiving valentines make up 51 percent of the entire student body last no vember 53 percent received notices of failure dormitory men accounted for 160 of the valentines while frater nity men received 422 and the town group 353 freshman engineers led the list in number of notices received ac cording to curricula with 229 men notified when asked for a statement dean congdon stated that this year's crop seems to be about av erage though a study of the rec ords of past years indicates on the surface at least that lehigh has been getting higher calibre men in the last few years this conclu sion may be drawn from the fact that while 57 percent of the speaker at the closing banquet of the national convention of pi delta epsilon honorary journalism fra ternity to be held saturday eve ning dec 3 at the hotel bethle hem in addition to the announcement of the banquet speaker henry t s heckman arts 39 chairman of the convention committee stated that delegates attending the four teenth national conclave would be housed at the various living groups on the campus women delegates will have moravian college for women as their headquarters representatives from approxi mately 40 colleges and universities from 12 different states are ex miscroscope tuberculine test and the x-ray suggests test program the disease described by dr mccutcheon as insidious is one whose symptoms may not occur until five years after infection a diagnosis may then discover tu berculosis five or six years before symptoms occur thus insuring prompt cure he stated that at le high there are possibly five or six students who have the disease dr mccutcheon
