scovil alumni secretary of the university had the idea that lehigh alumni could be a better informed group if some publication were available to bring the latest events of the campus to their attention at reg ular intervals it was then the first number of the lehigh alumni bulletin made its appearance as a 12 page pamphlet today twenty-five years later a 104-page silver anniversary num ber with a five color cover photo graphs and inside color came off the press the 3,500 copies each emblazoned with a picture of the alumni memorial building from a photo by shang-shoa young re search fellow in metallurgical en gineering took one month to pub lish this bulletin one of the largest magazines ever published in the alumni field in america contains contributions from six alumni ten students and one guest editor sailor extends greeting r w sailor president of the american alumni council sends the greeting of the council on the first page and expresses a feeling of gratitude for lehigh and the alumni bulletin for the work done by lehigh personalities in the twenty-five years of progress in alumni work in this country continued on page four university places letters in new fellowships are provided by the henry marison byllesby mem orial endowment created in mem ory of col h m byllesby 75 these are for the period of two academic years with an annual stipend of 750 half of the time of the fellowship holders must be de voted to research work on some problem in electrical mechanical or hydraulic engineering the oth er half to graduate study leading to the degree of master of science two more fellowships are pro vided by a bequest of james ward packard 84 these awards to re search fellows in electrical and me chanical engineering include an annual payment of 600 for a per iod of two academic years hold ers of the packard fellowship will also devote half their time to re search seven men will receive william c gotshall scholarships these are appointments of gineers thursday afternoon in new york city the paper contained a descrip tion of the technical details of the apparatus used last summer by dr ewing in his experiments at the bottom of the ocean and was writ ten jointly with allyn c vine graduate assistant in physics employs motion pictures to illustrate lecture how the moon would look from a hundred miles away was re vealed by ruroy sibley through motion pictures friday evening in packard auditorium sibley s lecture was sponsored by the e w brown astronomical society the speaker covered the whole field of heavenly bodies he stated that the pictures were taken through the mt wilson telescope the largest in the world it has a 100 inch lens and reaches out 500,000,000 miles into space he showed how an eclipse of the sun made it was writ ten jointly with allyn c vine graduate assistant in physics employs motion pictures to illustrate lecture how the moon would look from a hundred miles away was re vealed by ruroy sibley through motion pictures friday evening in packard auditorium sibley s lecture was sponsored by the e w brown astronomical society the speaker covered the whole field of heavenly bodies he stated that
