henderson in the only biography of huxley yet to be published writing about this modern author states there is not much for the biographer to make play with for his life has not been picturesque in commemorated by the univer sity next friday with a special constitutional issue of the brown and white george d harmon as sociate professor of american his tory and chairman of the faculty committee on the sesqui-centen nial celebration announced yester day the issue will be published two days before the actual date of the signing which was dec 12 1787 the staff of the paper is working in cooperation with representative sol bloom's congressional com mittee on the constitution sesqui centennial it is expected by the committee that the special issue will contain at least 16 pages and will include articles by president c c wil liams dr harmon dr h l gip son head of the history depart ment and dean albert g rau of moravian earle sends statement gov george h earle of penn sylvania is entirely supported by this meth od of fund raising this society points out that the need for tuber culosis work in the bethlehem dis trict is very great as this district has a high rate of cases comes out of the west to disrupt the order and system of the airport the manager of the airport is an old friend of his who gives him the job of fly ing the air-liners because of his rashness dizzy causes the death of a pilot and what he does to atone for his mistake brings the play to a smashing climax dechnik has appeared in many mustard and cheese productions among which are paths of glory wednesday a plane will fly over the town and campus towing a sign advertising the play cards telling of the production will be fastened on cars a full quota of members of the club were present at the audience of over 100 before the debate started dean mcconn who was chairman ex plained the oregon system which was used in the debate resolved that the state of pennsylviania should adopt a uni defended the affirmative and the business team a which included the following men f d pierce 41 and j levy 39 who defended the negative arts men defend negative the second debate was between the callaghan instructor of english h d ran dell coach of debating at bethle hem high school and z bairo coach of debating at fountain hill high school the oregon style of debating which was used proved very pop ular to the audience and provided many humorous incidents doors open at 7:30 for huxley lecture faculty students aid 1937 red cross drive plans dinner at sun inn and formal initiation latest forms one hundred photographs of examples of the use of glass in modern architectural enterprises will be exhibited during the next two weeks by the lehigh art gal lery the exhibit which is spon sored by the pittsburgh glass in stitute was first shown last june at rockefeller center in addition to the photographs a collection of wood carvings will be shown according to garth a howland head of the department of fine arts the carvings are in teresting both because of technical dexterity and the subject matter the exhibit of photographs being circulated by the american federation of arts will go from lehigh to harvard on dec 16 the subjects are the various prize winning arrangements of glass in its various forms as submitted in the pittsburgh glass institute com petition shows glass brick stressing the use of glass in building many photographs in clude glass brick a new devel opment in building materials others show the advances made in the manufacture of large plates of glass for the modern sunporch an unheard of use of glass 50 years ago fireplaces walls and entire rooms have been paneled with mirror glass mantles tabletops and other horizontal surfaces are also covered with this new mater ial mirror glass made in a var iety of colors forms many of the subjects of this collection of photo graphs interfraternity association holds annual conclave at new york hotel west present at meeting joseph hopkins bus 38 presi dent of the lehigh interfraternity council was elected last week chairman of the national inter fraternity conference which held its twenty-ninth annual conven tion at the hotel commodore in new york he is the first under graduate ever to preside as chair man of the association hopkins and walter west arts 39 were among the 300 delegates from 18 colleges and universities representing every section of the country attending the four-day session earl kenneth smiley assistant director of admissions represented the dean at the conference and was appointed to a committee to issue a fraternity manual discusses local councils the newly-installed president led a general discussion on the question how to strengthen local councils and make them more effective at one of the closing sessions during the conference delegates submitted questions vital to the interests of their respective fra ternities these were discussed at length at the various sessions hopkins during discussions brought up the question of co operative buying of the best rep resentation in local interfraternity councils and how to strengthen local interfraternity councils one of the highlights of the closing session was the adoption of a resolution criticizing social security board rulings with re spect to fraternities paying social security of their various em ployees further action was aban doned when delegates were as sured that a bill is now before congress in respect to the statis of fraternities on this question to strengthen councils commenting on the results of the convention hopkins said the whole idea was to find ways and means to strengthen the councils and the fraternities themselves all the delegates came with def inite ideas in mind they brought with them questions confronting their fraternities and discussed them at length on the whole i believe the conference accom plished a great deal the opening sessions of the con ference were divided into graduate and undergraduate group meet ings the former included 26 deans from colleges and universities presidents of the executive coun cil of national and college fraternity secretaries the undergraduates were presidents of interfraternity councils from the various colleges and universities during the final sessions the combined groups heard talks on such issues as rushing internal organization chapter activities and the relation of the fraternity to the educational program hopkins leads meeting at a banquet held friday even ing attended by deans of colleges and universities and past and pres ent officers of national interfra ternity council hopkins was the only undergraduate present graduate chairman darling at a session saturday morning in troduced the new undergraduate officers hopkins took over the meeting from this point further problems were discussed and men prominent in fraternity organiza tions spoke on questions confront ing fraternities according to hopkins officials of the national council comple mented lehigh on its system of fraternities lehigh has one of the most ideal situations for frater nities he was told the causes outlined were the sound financial standing and the fact that dorm itories are not absorbing fraternity material the lehigh union office an nounced yesterday that the total amount contributed to the red cross drive here was 123.27 of this amount fraternities donated 40 and three sections of taylor dormitory gave 17.05 the balance of 66.22 was con tributed by faculty members administrative business b team which in cluded h sondheim 41 and b a smith 40 who defended the affirmative and the arts team which included r kiefer 41 and j shearer 39 who defended the negative the judges were j c callaghan instructor of english h d ran dell coach of debating at bethle hem high school and z bairo coach of debating at fountain hill high school the oregon style of debating which was used proved very pop ular to the audience and provided many humorous incidents doors open at 7:30 for huxley lecture faculty students aid 1937 red cross drive plans dinner at sun inn and formal initiation pledging exercises were held last evening in the armory by scabbard and blade national hon orary military society plans were made for the formal initiation and banquet which will be held wednesday dec luncheon for school stars the alumni club of northeastern pennsylvania will entertain var ious high school football stars from scranton and vicinity at a luncheon today at the scanton club col nelson a kellogg director of athletics and earl k smiley assistant director of admissions will speak after luncheon the alumni will attend a football game which will be played by teams made up of the high the eng lish graduate union on wednes day at the faculty club of colum bia university he will talk on his experiences in england searching for unpublished manuscripts federation of arts photos display latest forms one hundred photographs of examples of the use of glass in modern architectural enterprises will be exhibited during the next two weeks by the lehigh art gal lery the exhibit which is spon sored by the pittsburgh glass in stitute was first shown last june at rockefeller center in addition to the photographs a collection of wood carvings will be shown according to garth a howland head of the department of fine arts the carvings are in teresting both because of technical dexterity and the subject matter the exhibit of photographs being circulated by the american federation of arts will go from lehigh to harvard on dec 16 the subjects are the various prize winning arrangements of glass in its various forms as submitted in the pittsburgh glass institute com petition shows glass brick stressing the use of glass in building many photographs in clude glass brick a new devel opment in building materials others show the advances made in the manufacture of large plates of glass for the modern sunporch an unheard of use of glass 50 years ago fireplaces walls and entire rooms have been paneled with mirror glass mantles tabletops and other horizontal surfaces are also covered with this new mater ial mirror glass made in a var iety of colors forms many of the subjects of this collection of photo graphs interfraternity association holds annual conclave at new york hotel west present at meeting joseph hopkins bus 38 presi dent of the lehigh interfraternity council was elected last week chairman of the national inter fraternity conference which held its twenty-ninth annual conven tion at the hotel commodore in new york he is the first under graduate ever to preside as chair man of the association hopkins and walter west arts 39 were among the 300 delegates from 18 colleges and universities representing every section of the country attending the four-day session earl kenneth smiley assistant director of admissions represented the dean at the conference and was appointed to a committee to issue a fraternity manual discusses local councils the newly-installed president led a general discussion on the question how to strengthen local councils and make them more effective at one of the closing sessions during the conference delegates submitted questions vital to the interests of their respective fra ternities these were discussed at length at the various sessions hopkins during discussions brought up the question of co operative buying of the best rep resentation in local interfraternity councils and how to strengthen local interfraternity councils one of the highlights of the closing session was the adoption of a resolution criticizing social security board rulings with re spect to fraternities paying social security of their various em ployees further action was aban doned when delegates were as sured that a bill is now before congress in respect to the statis of fraternities on this question to strengthen councils commenting on the results of the convention hopkins said the whole idea was to find ways and means to strengthen the councils and the fraternities themselves all the delegates came with def inite ideas in mind they brought with them questions confronting their fraternities and discussed them at length on the whole i believe the conference accom plished a great deal the opening sessions of the con ference were divided into graduate and undergraduate group meet ings the former included 26 deans from colleges and universities presidents of the executive coun cil of national and college fraternity secretaries the undergraduates were presidents of interfraternity councils from the various colleges and universities during the final sessions the combined groups heard talks on such issues as rushing internal organization chapter activities and the relation of the fraternity to the educational program hopkins leads meeting at a banquet held friday even ing attended by deans of colleges and universities and past and pres ent officers of national interfra ternity council hopkins was the only undergraduate present graduate chairman darling at a session saturday morning in troduced the new undergraduate officers hopkins took over the meeting from this point further problems were discussed and men prominent in fraternity organiza tions spoke on questions confront ing fraternities according to hopkins officials of the national council comple mented lehigh on its system of fraternities lehigh has one of the most ideal situations for frater nities he was told the causes outlined were the sound financial standing and the fact that dorm itories are not absorbing fraternity material the lehigh union office an nounced yesterday that the total amount contributed to the red cross drive here was 123.27 of this amount fraternities donated 40 and three sections of taylor dormitory gave 17.05 the balance of 66.22 was con tributed by faculty members administrative
