the last day of registration seventy eight members of the graduate school had entered tickets with the bursar by sat urday and the school is ex pected to number about 200 the number of undergrad uates students registered is al most 100 more than the 1634 men registered last semester if estimates are correct this year's enrollment should ex ceed that of last year by about 120 societies plan annual dance 140 men join paper's staff over 96 per cent of the 222 men who graduated in 1937 have secur ed work according to placement figures released yesterday by e robins morgan director of place ment in seven of the nine engineering curricula every man has been placed these include chemistry chemical engineering electrical engineering engineering physics mining engineering mechanical engineering and metallurgical en gineering nine out of 11 civil en gineers secured employment and 24 of the 25 industrial engineers were placed in the arts college 43 of the 47 graduates are employed and in the business college 49 out of 51 graduates have secured employ ment altogether 213 men out of the 222 in the class have been placed the figure of 96 per cent for the class may be even higher stated morgan as some gradu ates who were not employed when last contacted may have se cured work without notifying me the percentage placed shows a decided increase over preceding years using commencement day figures as a means of comparison for the class of 1937 the figure at commencement day was 88 per cent in 1934 55 per cent were placed in 1935 65 per cent were placed in 1935 65 per cent were system instituted by the board of trustees at its june meeting substitutes a one year requirement for the former two years and divides the chapel services into two different catagories one optional and one required the required service will be a colloquium discussion meeting held on monday wed nesday and friday in packad auditorium from 7:45 to 8 a m 35 attendance required a minimum of 35 attendances is required to pass a semester of colloquium this is approxim ately 80 per cent of the 43 or 44 colloquiums to be held per se mester the course as before will carry no credit hours but will be part of a required option for grad uation marks given will be p and f claude g beardslee pro fessor of moral and religious philosophy will conduct the col loquium giving talks of a philo sophical nature similar to those used in chapel in former years one semester of a one hour course in moral and religious philosophy will be offered as an option for the requirement in place of two semesters of colloquium sophomores and upperclassmen who have passed one year of the former chapsl attendance or a one semester course in moral and religious philosophy will be ex empt from further at dinners and parties which marked the end of the 12 day rushing season there were 23 less men pledged to fraternities this year than last phi delta theta took the greatest number pledging 13 delta kappa sigma off proba tion by corrected error owing to the omission of the names of two students from the list of members of the kappa sig ma fraternity submitted to the registrar's office last spring the kappa sigma scholarship average was incorrect announces g b curtis registrar the correct scholarship aver age for the fraternity for the sec ond semester is 1.681 instead of 1.573 as published in business prosperity will reach a new peak within four years ac cording to an article appearing in the annalist of sept 24 by elmer c bratt assistant profes sor of economics dr bratt believes that labor disturbances are not a serious threat to increasing business act ivity today as they were some months ago business momentum appears to be great enough at the present time so that outside in alumni member of the board of trustees and mother of robert farnham 111 37 died monday at her home in mt airy pa following a short undetermined illness she was buried yesterday morning at mt airy kappa sigma off proba tion by corrected error owing to the omission of the names of two students from the list of members of the kappa sig ma fraternity submitted to the registrar's office last spring the kappa sigma scholarship average was incorrect announces g b curtis registrar the correct scholarship aver age for the fraternity for the sec ond semester is 1.681 instead of 1.573 as published in the fresh man handbook this change in the scholastic average of the fraternity raises kappa sigma from 35th place to 32nd place and removes the house from probation o ballinger will be speaker at meeting of engineers an illustrated lecture on the work of the civil engineering corps in the united states navy will be given at a meeting of the lehigh valley section of the american society of
