attempting to get a membership of 100,000 people and to spread the idea of having all positions in the government placed on a merit basis dukek and swen son will organize a local chapter on the campus the speakers at the meeting yes terday were under-secretary of the interior charles west and mayor f h laguardia of new york city robert s johnson president of the league presided over the meeting mr west discussed civil service and showed how the present admin istration has placed many govern mental positions under civil ser vice he advocated the extension of the system into all govern mental congdon dean of admis sions the committee in charge of the program met tuesday after noon to arrange the final details student organizations have pro vided guides to conduct tours but dr congdon requested that any students who wish to serve as guides report to the lobby of the alumni building at 8:30 saturday morning two innovations incorporated in the program for the day are the reception of visitors accompanying the prospective lehigh men by the lehigh university women's club in drown hall at 3 p m at which time there will be a tea to which the faculty is invited and a recital by a had an article entitled invisible rays in industry published by the american so ciety for metals in metal progress this article also appears in condensed form in the june issue of the science digest
