year were elected at a meeting of tau beta pi honorary en gineering fraternity held last night in room 451 packard lab oratory the officers named are as follows john cooney e e 38 president warren b wood rich ch e 38 vice president john phillip welch m e 38 corresponding secretary charles hoffman e e 38 recording secretary vance edwards m.e 38 treasurer and william shep pard e m 38 cataloger john cooney was elected del egate to the national convention of the society to be held next year in texas warren wood rich was chosen alternate the society discussed a loan fund for the purpose of helping society members defer the pay ment of the initiation fee charged by the society a report will be made on the loan fund at the next meeting of the society which is the final meeting of the year g n lowdon to speak here joseph hopkins cast to hold 6 rehearsals by thomas b hand the fine acting in counsellor at-law the combined presentation of mustard and cheese faculty dramatic club and the dramatic workshop which was given fri day and saturday nights in drown hall was offset by the extreme length of the play itself there seemed to be too many details which while interesting in them selves did not contribute much to the action of the play the alternate casting of male leads gave the audience which to taled 700 an opportunity to con trast the handling of particular roles theodore l diamond arts 38 who portrayed the leading char acter george simon on friday night turned in a competent per formance the role of charles mc fadden was excellently portrayed by leonard elly e e 39 female roles adequate the leading female roles were adequately filled both mrs albert rights who was cast as george simon's secretary and mrs robert butler who played the role of cora wife of simon conducted them selves in an excellent manner the federal bureau of investi gation officer to talk on 6 g - men joseph hopkins bus 38 was elected president william clark ch e 38 vice president henry naisby ch e 38 treasurer wal ter west bus 38 secretary of the interfraternity council at a meet ing held last night at drown hall hopkins is a member of kappa alpha clark of sigma phi nais by of alpha kappa pi west of theta delta chi two proposals were made during the remainder of the business meet ing it was suggested that for the alumni weekend the time of the lehigh - lafayette football game there be a contest among the frater nities concerning the house decor ations the fraternity with the best decorations would receive an award of a silver cup the other proposal concerned a father's day get to-gether next fall to take place in each of the fraterni ties work on boy in babe land to be accelerated during week staff members edit city paper community chest to close drive characters of the telephone opera tor and george simon's mother acted by mrs william l jenkins and mrs lawrence whitcomb re spectively deserve considerable credit the time consumed in scene changes helped to prolong the length of the play this was not the fault of the stage crew but rather of the very limited resources of the stage itself the plot of the play revolved around a successful lawyer george simon who had worked himself up from a humble beginning and married a member of the social set cora the obstacles of such a marriage are shown in detail regina simon's secretary who is secretly in love with him makes a typical triangle love affair cora leaves husband after much detailed action cora leaves her husband in preference for the play-boy roy darwin after being thrwarted by his secretary in his attempt to commit suicide he regains his sense and finally leaves with regina to work on a new case the settings of the reception room and simon's private office made a very good showing the difficult handling of the sets them selves was well done the punctual appearance of the cast on the stage and their movements and well memorized lines while on the stage show the fine direction of mr rights plans for the freshman class dance to be held saturday night are rapidly nearing completion an nounced alfred bodine eng 40 last night the services of paul marsh and his midshipmen from norristown have been obtained to play in the masonic temple for the dance which will last from 9 p m to 1 a m the dance this year will be in formal tickets priced at 1.14 each may be obtained at the union office service among college students speakers at the luncheon on thursday will include under-secre tary of the interior charles west and mayor fiorella laguardia fol lowing the noon session an organ ization meeting will be held robert j johnson is president of the league and among the vice pres idents are newton d baker for mer secretary of war and a law rence lowell president emeritus of harvard attend conference criticisms given larkin and a t curren speak at banquet due to the recent mustard and cheese production counsellor-at law it has been found necessary to hold six rehearsals this week in preparation for the musical comedy boys in babeland which will be presented on may 7 and 8 in drown hall miss isabelle matthews nelson j leonard ch e 37 and miss genevieve giering will head a large good condition to leave hospital soon the condition of miles l harris arts 37 who has been in st luke's hospital since april 10 is reported as good he is expected to leave the hospital the end of this members of the student criticism group and by other students were discussed at a meeting of the com mittee on student critcism monday evening in packard laboratory three criticisms were submitted by students other than those on the committee sub-committees were appointed to investigate all objections pre sented the committee is restricted to seniors members of phi beta kap pa honorary scholastic grounds died at his home in university heights saturday morning he was connected with the university for the past seven years mr ruth's death followed an illness of several months mr ruth served as
