announced ten students formed a local chapter of the roosevelt for king club at a meeting friday night at joe's a letter was received yester the police school of eastern pennsylvania was officially opened yesterday afternoon in packard lab oratory sixty-five men are enrolled and have started the course under the direction of j a detlesfen for mer professor of genetics at the university of illinois the course will last 12 weeks with classes on mondays and thursdays from 4 to 6 mr detles fen will teach part of the course the other parts will be taught by men assigned from the u s department of justice and the state police sev eral lawyers will lecture on evi dence and court procedure ses sions of the course which ends june 14 will be held in room 466 pack ard laboratory community pays fee the members are all connected with the police departments of al lentown bethlehem easton and wind gap the tuition fee of 10 per man is to be paid by the com munity employing the officer and this will go directly to the director of the school the university committee which is connected with the course con sists of dean c m mcconn f v larkin director of the curricula in mechanical and industrial engin eering and h p thomas director of the summer session school started in 1934 the school was first started in 1934 with sessions at villanova col lege because of the of his talk was devotion to educa tion as a cause dean mcconn will also speak at a meeting of the parent-teacher association on thursday night at the abington high school abington he will talk on parents i have known major carter collins assistant professor of military science and tactics told the lehigh discussion forum friday evening in packard laboratory that although the span ish loyalists are at a disadvantage because their military equipment is inferior to that of the rebels the loyalists chances for victory will be enhanced if the international block ade is put into effect the title of the talk was spain — a military lab major collins said that the pres ent warfare has not contributed much to the advancement of mili tary science because the countries supplying the armies with imple ments have withheld the most mod ern implements of warfare rebels have advantage the three factions responsible for the spanish revolution are the church the military and the rich land owners according to major collins the rebel side has at pres ent the advantage of better imple ments more ammunition and su perior training since the rebels de pend largely on support from out side countries the international blockade would be an important de velopment in the civil war the loyalists have the favorable sentiments of the spanish people as a whole however the rebels are in the most strategic april 14 a speaker has not as yet been nam ed for that occasion the men elected to this honorary fraternity are determined not solely upon their scholastic records but also upon their integrity character and breadth of interests the men are chosen from the top eighth of the junior class tau beta pi was founded at le high in 1885 there are now over 50 chapters scattered throughout the united states day from the mother chapter at yale university granting their ap plication for a charter at the meeting officers were tau beta pi pledges 11 juniors at exercises in chapel initiation will be held april 14 engineer teams plan final meet m e.s and engineering physicists win elected by the charter members plans were discussed and it was de cided to follow the policy of the yale club which stated that we agree not to take any personal profit from the club and we shall give excess proceeds to charity the club welcomes all students who are interested in it and it is also open to all engineering phy sics team heckman and phelps again won by defeating the c e negative team composed of carl r fitkau eng 40 and robert g stern eng 40 tomorrow night the semi-final round will be held the winner of the m e versus engineering phy sics debate will be determined this team will meet the winner of the arts-business debate for the cham pionship and the prize princeton and perm state wrestl ers were among the 300 guests at tending the annual phi gamma delta fraternity dance on saturday at the chapter house john s hop pock i e 38 treasurer of the house remarked the dance was one of the best we ever had al though there were many stags and a terrific crowd everybody had a fine time the dance was formal lasting from 10 to 2 punch was served to all present bob and dick fuss or chestra furnished the music gail preston feature girl singer for the orchestra entertained the chaperons for the dance were prof t t lafferty assistant pro fessor of education and mrs laf ferty framed end june 14 members assigned to look up records of existing campus clubs compiling under mack lehigh university brown and white at the model senate convention held friday at princeton the judi ciary committee of which eugene uhler arts 37 was chairman put through a bill to allow congress to override supreme court decisions by a two-thirds vote of both houses daniel q marshall m e 38 who also represented lehigh at the convention was appointed to the executive committee of the model senate for next year president roocevelt's supreme court proposal was also discussed it was generally agreed
