having been the largest prom ever held at lehigh university the music played by hal kemp and his band seemed to excite a greater amount of collegiate appro val than that of any other band en gaged at lehigh in the past several years said dean c m mcconn who described the dance as one of the two best conducted interfrater nity balls since their inception four years ago playing from ten to three o'clock kemp offered a great variety of old and new dance tunes most of which were vocalized by skinny ennis who sang an encore number of kemp's own composition i've got a date with an angel among the feature numbers of the evening were a special arrangement of the bolero with kemp swinging the gourds and a vocal-dramatic rendi tion of the seven little bottles the band ended the dance by play ing the lehigh alma mater realizing the possibility of an unusual attendance the committee arranged to open an extra check room accommodating 300 persons so as to relieve the confusion which usually accompanies checking at the coliseum this was the fifth interfraternity ball in the history of the univer sity the first several however met with the disapproval of the admin istration and for some time the fu ture of the dance was very shaky prior to the inception of the ball several of the various fraternities sponsored private mid-winter dances but because of the modest nature of the dances large bands were out of the question at the first interfraternity ball in 1933 ted black and don redman furnished the music in 1934 don bestor and jean cardo were engag ed the following year mai hallet and emerson gill played for the first interfraternity ball to be held at the coliseum the coliseum was again the site of the dance last year when tommy dorsey played the committee for this year's dance consisted of knox l peet bus 37 charles f mccoy arts 37 donald c barnum i e 37 [ and thomas e niehaus bus 37 programs in the current series sponsored by the student concerts group were having been the largest prom ever held at lehigh university the music played by hal kemp and his band seemed to excite a greater amount of collegiate appro val than that of any other band en gaged at lehigh in the past several years said dean c m mcconn who described the dance as one of the two best conducted interfrater nity balls since their inception four years ago playing from ten to three o'clock kemp offered a great variety of old and new dance tunes most of which were vocalized by skinny ennis who sang an encore number of kemp's own composition i've got a date with an angel among the feature numbers of the evening were a special arrangement of the bolero with kemp swinging the gourds and a vocal-dramatic rendi tion of the seven little bottles the band ended the dance by play ing the lehigh alma mater realizing the possibility of an unusual attendance the committee arranged to open an extra check room accommodating 300 persons so as to relieve the confusion which usually accompanies checking at the coliseum this was the fifth interfraternity ball in the history of the univer sity the first several however met with the disapproval of the admin istration and for some time the fu ture of the dance was very shaky prior to the inception of the ball several of the various fraternities sponsored private mid-winter dances but because of the modest nature of the dances
