drown hall mr smith will be a speaker at the university in the spring when he will lecture on the promise of american politics the philosophy meeting is pre sented with a review of any book in the field of philosophy by one of its members at each of its meet ings every two weeks stoughton gives advan tages of curricula will select successor to andrew buchanan gahatma roams with a hike to the pinnacle near lenhartsville the hiking division of the outing club began its activities last sunday the hiking division of the club takes weekend hikes over trails and to points of geological interest return jeep s p e.'s new mascot is a ? gov alfred m landon repub lican nominee is the choice of the student body of lehigh for pres ident of the united states accord ing to the poll conducted wednes day by the brown and white governor landon received 629 of the 813 votes cast 136 votes were cast for president franklin d roosevelt 19 for the commun ist candidate browder 18 for so cialist norman thomas 10 for union candidate lemke and one for prohibitionist colvin this gives landon a majority of almost five to one over his leading presidential rival six hundred seventy-two votes were cast by fraternity men giving landon 529 votes roosevelt 110 thomas 16 lemke 9 browder 7 and colvin 1 the town group cast 100 votes for landon 26 for roose velt 12 for browder two for thomas and one for lemke seniors favor landon in the tabulation according to classes the seniors gave 115 votes to landon 20 to roosevelt 2 to browder 2 to lemke and 1 to thomas there were a total of 140 senior votes cast of the 199 votes of the junior class 162 were cast for landon 22 for roosevelt 4 for browder 5 for thomas and 1 for lemke the sophomore class like wise favored landon casting 180 of their 233 votes cast for the re publican nominee they cast 40 votes for roosevelt 5 for thomas 4 for browder and 4 for lemke the freshman class while favor ing governor landon gave pres ident roosevelt more votes than the other three classes of the 241 votes cast president roosevelt received 54 while landon received 172 of the remaining votes 7 were for norman thomas 4 for browder 3 for lemke and 1 for colvin half of school votes it is significant that the 813 votes cast represent over half of the stu dent body of lehigh which now numbers 1601 this fact shows great interest in the brown and white poll and especially in the presidential election the comparison of the faculty poll and the student poll shows that while both students and faculty fa vor governor landon the students have given him an even greater majority his majority being five to three with the faculty and almost five to one with the students an interesting feature of the poll is the fact that one junior cast his ballot for charlie the janitor charlie is charles wasser the republican janitor of packard lab oratory who attracted attention last friday when he gave an address to the lehigh discussion forum fea turing the wpa the republican domination among the undergraduates this year shows a slight gain over the 1932 figures landon with 629 votes won 78 per cent of the votes cast a gain of four per cent over the 1932 election roosevelt polled 17 per cent this year and 18 per cent in 1932 the greatest difference is found in the socialistic vote two per cent of the students voted for thomas this year as compared with nine per cent in 1932 a system of three uniform years of engineering curricula was the topic for discussion of the faculty educational club at its meeting on monday in the faculty room of the wednes day by the brown and white governor landon received 629 of the 813 votes cast 136 votes were cast for president franklin d roosevelt 19 for the commun ist candidate browder 18 for so cialist norman thomas 10 for union candidate lemke and one for prohibitionist colvin this gives landon a majority of almost five to one over his leading presidential rival six hundred seventy-two votes were cast by fraternity men giving landon 529 votes roosevelt 110 thomas 16 lemke 9 browder 7 and colvin 1 the town group cast 100 votes for landon 26 for roose velt 12 for browder two for thomas and one for lemke seniors favor landon in the tabulation according to classes the seniors gave 115 votes to landon 20 to roosevelt 2 to browder 2 to lemke and 1 to thomas there were a total of 140 senior votes cast of the 199 votes of the junior class 162 were cast for landon 22 for roosevelt 4 for browder 5 for thomas and 1 for lemke the sophomore class like wise favored landon casting 180 of their 233 votes cast for the re publican nominee they cast 40 votes for roosevelt 5 for thomas 4 for browder and 4 for lemke the freshman class while favor ing governor landon gave pres ident roosevelt more votes than the other three classes of the 241 votes cast president roosevelt received 54 while landon received 172 of the remaining votes 7 were for norman thomas 4 for browder 3 for lemke and 1 for colvin half of school votes it is significant that the 813 votes cast represent over half of the stu dent body of lehigh which now numbers 1601 this fact shows great interest in the brown and white poll and especially in the presidential election the comparison of the faculty poll and the student poll shows that while both students and faculty fa vor governor landon the students have given him an even greater majority his majority being five to three with the faculty and almost five to one with the students an interesting feature of the poll is the fact that one junior cast his ballot for charlie the janitor charlie is charles wasser the republican janitor of packard lab oratory who attracted attention last friday when he gave an address to the lehigh discussion forum fea turing the wpa the republican domination among the undergraduates this year shows a slight gain over the 1932 figures landon with 629 votes won 78 per cent of the votes cast a gain of four per cent over the 1932 election roosevelt polled 17 per cent this year and 18 per cent in 1932 the greatest difference is found in the socialistic vote two per cent of the students voted for thomas this year as compared with nine per cent in 1932 a system of three uniform years of engineering curricula was the topic for discussion of the faculty educational club at its meeting on monday in the faculty room of the administration building the discussion was led by brad ley h stoughton dean of engineer ing who pointed out the advantages of the system of three uniform years of engineering as practiced at rutgers
