evening by william e austin chairman of the class day commit tee at 2 o'clock in the afternoon the seniors and their parents and friends will gather at the university flag pole where robert m eichner 1.e president of the graduating class will open the ceremonies the sen iors will attend in caps and gowns after the opening exercises thomas k garihan jr bus and bernard s weiss c e will give the class prophecy david w hop pock i e will then deliver the ivy oration austin stated that the ivy sprig would probably be planted beside packard laboratory the ten-cent presents which will be presented to various members of the graduating class will be dis tributed by william s hutchinson ch e eichner will deliver a short talk at one point during the after noon howell a scobey jr m e secretary-treasurer of the class will call the roll each student as his name is called will rise and break a clay pipe on the head of one of his friends at 4 p m president c c wil liams will entertain the class at a reception to be held in drown hall this affair the arrangements for which are entirely in the hands of president williams will conclude the afternoon's activities the seniors will from the broad casting station late friday stated that the union demanded a 10 standby charge per player from the band the expense would have to taled about 500 the broadcasting station is trying to favorite new york news paper of lehigh students as the re sult of a survey made by the bus iness staff of the brown and white the evening newspaper with 209 votes was just one ahead of the new york times with 208 the sun however dominated its field by leading the world-telegram by 108 votes there were 339 votes cast in this division two other pa pers were picked by 29 students in the morning conflicting views on the idea of extreme spe cialization in and after college dr fort argued that a student who made a point to specialize partic ularly in mathematics would be come an expert in technical work after his graduation dr doan on the other hand took the other side of the argument his topic being two paths to suc cess the first path was that of trying to beat out the other fellow by taking unfair advantage conse quently becoming relatively inex perienced as well as lacking in cul ture the second path which dr doan considered altogether the more valuable was that of keeping the issue rules tells of brown and white in alumni bulletin the may issue of the alumni bulletin appeared yesterday the magazine includes an article by d h gramley associate professor of journalism on the press record of the brown and white and an article entitled when mr alum nus comes back the cover is a commencement photograph the article by profes sor gramley tells of the success of the brown and white in recent press competition with other col lege papers professor gramley at tributes the success of the school paper to the excellent type of stu dent attracted to lehigh because of its reputation for high grade scholarship the splendid faculty the composition courses required of all students in the english depart ment and the system of faculty ad visership which is being developed for all extra-curricular activities car ried on at lehigh a student who is ill on the day of any final examination should not enter the examination but should report to the health ser vice where he will be given an excuse for missing the examina tion on the basis of this he will be permitted to take a spe cial make-up examination ordin arily during the summer re-ex aminations on the three days this issue of the brown and white publication will be suspended for the semester railroads to stop student round trip fares a change of railroad rates affect ing students in colleges universi ties and preparatory schools has been announced to become effective june 1 1936 the present one and a third rate round trip fare for students over vacation periods will be annulled as the new rate goes into effect the present rate for passenger fares is about 3.6 cents per mile while the new rate will be very close to two cents per mile the great reduction in rates will not permit the special round trip
