installed filtration beds for its water supply a univer sity notice recommended that all students boil any milk or water they might consume neglect of this warning caused ten boys room ing in the same house to be taken ill in 1918 they considered calling off the football schedule a war de partment dispatch cancelling all so cial activities until the close of the war came uncomfortably close to saving the leopard from a 17-0 de feat whether or not the brown and white which suspended publi cation for three weeks was consid ered a social activity is open to question so it seems they have a ch e 37 and joseph l walton met 37 collins kornet and crockett were elected last fall but leonard and walton are new men leonard is class president leonard is president of the junior class vice president of cyanide junior honorary society a member of the lehigh union cabinet of tau beta pi national honorary engin eering fraternity and of the new tonian society honorary mathemat ics society he was president of phi eta sigma honorary freshman so ciety took freshman and sopho more honors was a wilbur schol ar and won the freshman mathe matics and sophomore chemistry prizes walton is savagery to civilization has been postponed until march 25 and 26 registrar george b curtis stated yesterday tickets sold for the previously scheduled performance of march 4 and 5 will be acceptable for the corresponding nights of the lat er showing to consider plans on lecture series escobedo to sing on station w.i.p asks permission to con duct separate eats concession protests monopoly rates revolting against the monopoly prices of the traditional eats man 120 students living in the taylor hall dormitory today petitioned dean c max mcconn to permit them to establish an immobile food concession in the building unanimously agreeing that tay lor hall needs a reliable source of evening refreshment the group pre sented five arguments in an attempt to oust the eats man if a store were established the concession aires would be appointed by the dean and the placement director 5 reasons listed the arguments presented are 1 the prices charged at present are unconscionably high as a faculty to belong to the organization the other men who are members are president clement c williams and wil liam c dickerman president of the american locomotive company and trustee of lehigh department desires to enroll a quota of candidates from the sen ior classes and the alumni of the universities and colleges of the country for training as naval avia tion cadets it is expected that about 20 can didates will be selected for the elimination training to be given at the naval reserve aviation unit navy yard philadelphia there will be five consecutive training classes of four students per class the first class will start training about may 15 classes are of about one month's duration candidates will be select ed fromi among those who make their residence in the fourth naval district which includes pennsylva nia southern new jersey and del aware to enter as seaman a candidate selected for training is enrolled as a seaman second class u s n r ordered to active duty with pay and designated a student naval aviation pilot upon complet ing his elimination flight training upon completion of this training if selected the candidate is ordered to duty at pensacola fla athletic events have been called off dean gives statement dean mcconn's statement issued after a conference with president clement c williams dr f j conahan city physician and dr r c bull director of the student health service is by order of the health officer of the city of bethlehem on account of the epidemic of german measles the university has cancelled all pub lic gatherings of lehigh students for a period of two weeks feb 27 march 11 inclusive this order covers all dances pub lic lectures open meetings of so cieties and athletic events both in tercollegiate and intramural the interscholastic swimming and wrest ling meets are included among the events cancelled 30 cases reported the university regrets the neces sity of this measure but it is un doubtedly necessary both for the protection of the student body and of the surrounding community and as stated above has been ordered by the health department of the city dr bull reported last night after a check on all fraternity houses that 30 student cases had been re ported to the infirmary but that many students had gone to their homes for treatment or observation without reporting eleven cases are isolated in st luke's hospital seven in the allen town hospital six in the sacred heart hospital allentown three in fraternity houses and three at homes in town many students dr bull stated have gone home for treatment not because they have the measles but because of fear twelve cots have been installed in drown hall in case they are needed dr bull does not believe it will be necessary to use them how ever postponed house dances are not yet complete lacrosse group to discuss lineup gilberto escobedo to put obsolete la rhone type in packard lab fred v larkin director of the mechanical and industrial engineer ing curricula has just acquired an old french le rhone ra dial airplane engine for packard lab oratory the horsepower per pound of this engine is very low as com pared with modern engines of the same type the machine is of revolutionary design as its entirety revolves about a stationary crankshaft providing an excellent air cooling effect as the breech type cylinders are pro vided with fins the propeller is of necessity coupled directly to the ro tating engine the le rhone engine has an odd timing ratio as compared to the american radial engines the man ifold of this engine is in
