to the phila delphia team by professor tal madge said that the debate was a very close match but that st jos eph's had a slight advantage over the lehigh team in manner of pre sentation according to the judge's scoring system the result was 54-51 the lehigh debaters were how ard koller ch e 37 and norman morse eng 39 the contestants representing st joseph's were h p riiey and m.p bowes the ques tion was resolved that congress should be empowered to override by a two-thirds vote decisions of the united states supreme court de claring acts of congress unconsti tutional announces two debates p j potochney arts 37 secre tary-treasurer of the debating so ciety announced today that there would be two more debates this week one will be at 7:30 p m to morrow in room 4b6 packard lab oratory with ursinus college and the other at 7:30 p m friday with lincoln college a negro institu tion potochney also announced that he and w guyer ch e 36 president of the debating society would at tend a convention and model sen ate friday at rutgers they are to represent senators morris and burke of nebraska to feature story of old bethlehem tickets on sale at lehigh union cooperation asked for freshmen price to be 1.14 couple tickets for the second freshman dance which will be held feb 15 in the masonic temple are now on sale and can be procured from any freshman union representative or from the lehigh union office in drown hall price 1.14 couple 85 c stag bubby johnson and his colored orchestra will play from 10 to 2 johnson stated nat whitman president of the freshman union is well known in baltimore during houseparty last spring and fall he played at the alpha tau omega house and was so well received that he has been engaged again for houseparty this spring played at chi phi johnson made another appearance at lehigh when he played at the chi phi house although the chi phi's weren't exactly sure for what affair they had engaged him they remembered that he had made a er arts 36 presided on saturday the chi psi frater nity formally inducted five fresh men the speakers were major carter collins assistant professor of military science j d denise 29 and senator g a rupp 28 clyde collins arts 36 was toast master herrick speaks at banquet robert f herrick 34 assistant alumni secretary of the university spoke at the initiation banquet sat urday for six alpna kappa pi fresh men george b thorn former me chanical engineering instructor gene laschober 33 and albert jahn of philadelphia were additional speakers beta kappa conducted a semi formal initiation for their six pledges at their house sunday a banquet was held at the sun inn in the evening dr max petersen associate professor of physics was the speaker he was introduced by the head of the house gerald browne who acted as toastmaster twelve men including one soph omore and one junior received the first of three degrees of initiation at the lambda chi alpha house sun day night the second degree will m brown professor of history attributed to plotinus a third century philosopher a large influence on contemporary philoso phical thought at the meeting of the robert w blake philosophical so ciety friday evening during his discussion on ploti nus the philosopher of alexan dria professor brown said that he felt we have not sufficiently recog nized the importance of this third century philosopher many of the faculty took an in terest in the subject and came to hear professor brown's impressions of the wosk of plotinus befoe this talk the society held its business meeting to speak on king dorr address before the faculty educational club yesterday afternoon presented a mathematical formula whereby the teaching load of the college profes sor can be measured in estimating the teaching load the first step should be an alloca tion of time to these recognized functions of teaching research and adminitration tated williams al though a small number may devote their attention singly to one func tion it is probable that most mem bers will participate in two or per haps in all three of these functions to varying degrees williams estimated a heavy teach ing load to be 45 hours a week a moderate standard 40 hours a week and a light standard 35 hours a week these standards include not only actual teaching hours but also time spent in preparation for recitations in supervising theses in conferences and in general faculty administrative work o anderson to discuss x-rays harold v anderson associate professor of chemistry will speak this evening before the technical association of the fur industry of new york on fiber srtuctures as revealed by x-ray analysis tau beta pi appoints com mittee to study ideas the proposed plan for student sponsorship of a cultural lecture se ries was discussed at the meeting of tau beta pi friday evening in pack ard laboratory at the meeting a committee was appointed to make an investigation of the project the committee con sists of bernard s gipson head of the department of history and gov ernment will talk on the implica tions of the death of king george at the monthly meeting of the in ternational relations club meeting at 7:30 p m
