undeveloped and needs young blood to advance the work asked to reminisce the speaker came prepared to tell of contacts with gaseous conduc tion members of the electrical en gineering faculty prevailed upon him to reminisce and until shortly before 11 o'clock the society's larg est audience in four years heard in timate sketches of edison tesla steinmetz westinghouse insul and other pioneers in the electrical field mr moore told the society of his experiences in attempting to discov er a light that would be more effi cient than the incandescent lamp and one that would give a light more nearly issue of the alumni bulletin will carry a picture of howell scobey captain of the football team this is the first time in the history of the bul letin that a picture of an individual has appeared on the cover states h d keiser assintant editor of the bulletin one of the encouraging factors in the lehigh football situation is the superb playing of captain how ell scobey left tackle his perfor mance this season is causing many of those who have followed lehigh football over a period of years to rate him as one of the best players lehigh has turned out states keiser besides his athletic the fall meeting of the council of the college of arts and science will be held on monday oct 28 in the faculty room of the alumni mem orial building geologists write research pioneer leaves equipment and writings with local branch bringing cartons of his papers and historical apparatus to the school from which he graduated in 1890 daniel mcfarlan moore in ventor and electrical engineer visit ed lehigh thursday he came to the campus to speak before a meet ing of the student branch of the american institute of electrical engineers last evening in packard laboratory the inventor of moore light who appeared to be years younger than his contributions to the elec trical world would indicate asked the society to carry on the work in the field of gaseous illumination as the field is still undeveloped and needs young blood to advance the work asked to reminisce the speaker came prepared to tell of contacts with gaseous conduc tion members of the electrical en gineering faculty prevailed upon him to reminisce and until shortly before 11 o'clock the society's larg est audience in four years heard in timate sketches of edison tesla steinmetz westinghouse insul and other pioneers in the electrical field mr moore told the society of his experiences in attempting to discov er a light that would be more effi cient than the incandescent lamp and one that would give a light more nearly like daylight his first excursion into the subject came when he read a short item telling of the relative efficiencies of filaments and geissler tubes the article aroused his curiosity and he soon adopted the subject as a hobby the experimenter spent over 20 years developing the gas-conduction light la was only in 1912 when sir william ramsey isolated neon in sufficient quantity to fill a lamp that a suitable non-burning gaseous con ductor was found it only remained for other interests to commercialize the idea and develop the neon signs of today through the whole of mr moore's talk the word first was heard constantly the speaker em phasized the fact that pioneers are pioneers because they do things first when mr moore finished his re marks he had not completed a sum mary of his work performance the joos ballet winner of the 1932 in ternational prize in paris although three concerts are guaranteed each season not less than four have been held for the past seven year with the exception of the open ing ballet-drama presentation of ballet of the green table the program for the season has not been arranged but the remaining concerts to be held at the lyric theatre in allentown will be of a musical nature along with these performances the holder of a sea son ticket of the allentown organ ization is entitled to attend any number of community concerts in easton dressed a conference of the phila delphia county medical society re cently at the mulford colloid lab oratory in philadelphia professor neville's talk at the symposium on colloids was follow ed by papers by medical men giv ing the application of colloids in the field of medicine stanley thomas professor of bacteriology also at tended the conference placement bureau shows 25 percent help selves
