ago grissinger was not ed for his invention in 1910 of the telephone repeater an instrument which makes long distance tele phone communication possible grissinger's instrument was in general use until the many im provements in communication dur ing the war did away with the me chanical repeater in favor of the vacuum tube the american tel ephone and telegraph company purchased the patent of grissinger's repeater in 1916 as it still contained many important features in use to day included in grissinger's gift to the e e department is a condensed 3,000 mile telephone wire which will permit long distance telephone test ing to be carried on in the labora tory the original cost of this con densed telephone wire was in excess of 7,000 and it is the third instru ment of its kind to be installed in packard laboratory in 1932 the de partment purchased a 750 mile wire for 350 and the a t & t com pany gave the department a 700 mile wire also included in his gift is a working model of his telephone repeater and a large quantity of tel ephone equipment his entire pri vate collection of books has been presented to the university library grissinger received his e e de gree from lehigh the lehigh chapter at a meeting of the lehigh chapter of alpha kappa psi in the faculty room wednesday night begins with an alumni conference saturday morning discuss fraternity problems since alpha kappa psi is a pro fessional fraternity which means that about one half of its chapter are social groups such as the living group fraternities at lehigh and the other half are professional groups such as the lehigh chapter the problems to be discussed will be somewhat the same as those facing the living group fraternities at le high garihan said the saturday morning confer ence will discuss such questions as what are the benefits to be derived from alumni chapters and from in dividual alumni cooperation in col legiate chapter affairs in respect to employment vocational guidance finances of chapters chapter meet ings and social events and what suggestions can be made for alumni guidance and participation in scien tific research in the fields of com merce accounts and finance among the chapter problems to be discussed are what advantage is there in belonging to a national fraternity and what advantage is there in proper pledge training to lunch at drown hall the delegates will lunch at drown hall and on saturday eve ning a formal banquet will be held in the university room of the ho tel bethlehem sunday morning will feature the tri-annual golf tournament to be held at the saucon grissinger's repeater in 1916 as it still contained many important features in use to day included in grissinger's gift to the e e department is a condensed 3,000 mile telephone wire which will permit long distance telephone test ing to be carried on in the labora tory the original cost of this con densed telephone wire was in excess of 7,000 and it is the third instru ment of its kind to be installed in packard laboratory in 1932 the de partment purchased a 750 mile wire for 350 and the a t & t com pany gave the department a 700 mile wire also included in his gift is a working model of his telephone repeater and a large quantity of tel ephone equipment his entire pri vate collection of books has been presented to the university library grissinger received his e e de gree from lehigh in 1894 and his masters degree in 1916 his thesis for his m e dealt with his tele phone repeater which was then used extensively he was the first business manager of the brown and white and also one recovery at lecture this evening 3 day convention opens will discuss problems of fraternities in con ference tomorrow banqueting tonight at the hotel bethlehem 60 members of the northeastern district of alpha kap pa psi national professional fra ternity of commerce will open its 1935 conference at lehigh immediately following the ban quet the members will gather at the public lecture economics of re covery to be given by neil car others at 8 p m in packard audi torium frederic r leach consulting ac countant and district councilor will speak at tonight's banquet welcom ing the delegates and their friends and outlining the program of the conference the alumni members will include a vice president of the empire state trust company a member of j p morgan company certified public accountants and other prominent business men of the northeast the undergraduate delegates will consist of representatives from the following universities new york university university of pittsburgh boston university columbia uni versity syracuse university uni versity of buffalo george wash ington university and lehigh uni versity the program of conference as announced by thomas k garihan president of the lehigh chapter at a meeting of the lehigh chapter of alpha kappa psi in the faculty room wednesday night begins with an alumni conference saturday morning discuss fraternity problems since alpha kappa psi is a pro fessional fraternity which means that about one half of its chapter are social groups such as the living group fraternities at lehigh and the other half are professional groups such as the lehigh chapter the problems to be discussed will be somewhat the same as those facing the living group fraternities at le high garihan said the saturday morning confer ence will discuss such questions as what are the benefits to be derived from alumni chapters and from in dividual alumni cooperation in col legiate chapter affairs in respect to employment vocational guidance finances of chapters chapter meet ings and social events and what suggestions can be made for alumni guidance and participation in scien tific research in the fields of com merce accounts and finance among the chapter problems to be discussed are what advantage is there in belonging to a national fraternity and what advantage is there in proper pledge training to lunch at drown hall the delegates will lunch at drown hall and on saturday eve ning a formal banquet will be held in the university room of the ho tel bethlehem sunday morning will feature the tri-annual golf tournament to be held at the saucon valley country club in which any two men from any of the alumni or active chap ters may try to wrest the golf tro phy from the present holders the new york alumni chapter the undergraduate members were registered at the alumni building this afternoon and assigned to the fraternity houses where they will room the alumni members were registered and will stay at the ho tel bethlehem the various sessions of the con ference will be held in the engin eers smoking room in packard lab oratory the only session open to the public will be the lecture by dr carothers tonight caraway speaks at banquet eb caraway end coach of the football team spoke of defenses and offenses used in football wednes day evening at the annual banquet of the young men's bible class of the first baptist church charles the new policy adopted by the bulletin committee according to a e buchanan jr editor of the bulletin and executive secretary of the alumni association the former policy of sending the magazine to all alumni regardless of whether the subscription fee was paid or not had to be dropped stated buchanan on account of the increase in unpaid subscriptions es pecially during the last five years it is for craftsman's guild for his model of a napoleonic coach by the terms of the scholarship jenson is per mitted to attend any university in the united states the 5,000 must be spent before he is 25 years old it took five years to build and re build the coach during which time jenson won several hundred dollar awards trips to detroit and chi cago and finally the 5,000 scholar ship chem secretary to
