other duties to assume active lead ership other proponents of the new reg ulations pointed out that such plans are in effective operation at many colleges degray to leave lehigh on june 30 will choose one of three po sitions offered after 12 years as an instructor and student at lehigh richard j degray instructor in chemistry will leave the university on june 30 to accept an industrial position at present mr degray does not know definitely with what company he will work three positions are available a research job with the american cyanamide company sales promotion with the leeds & northrup company and a research job in the automotive laboratories of the socony-vacuum oil com pany mr degray will receive his doc tor's degree from columbia uni versity in october his work for the doctor's degree was begun in 1932 when he was given a fellowship in problems of higher education this was in recognition of the work done by him in organizing the student advisory system in the department of chemistry mr degray matriculated at le high in 1923 graduated in 1927 re ceived his master's degree in 1927 and was made an assistant in chem istry the following year in 1930 he became an instructor a also elected executive committee of brown and white sup plants student board governing since 1894 final financial statement of burr board is accepted control of the brown and white since the founding of the paper in 1894 in the hands of the board passed officially into the hands of the executive committee monday afternoon when the board of pub lications approved the new consti tution of the paper while the publications board which met in the office of dean c m mcconn was approving the ex pansion of the paper by sanctioning the equipping of a dark room it practically wrote finis to the history of the burr by accepting its final financial statement and allowing the burr board to close its accounts and distribute its profits robert b picking present local advertising assistant was approved as the new national advertising as sistant of the brown and white and philip l myers was approved as the advertising copy superviser of the paper board becomes honorary the board of the brown and white which formerly had the power to amend the constitution of the paper became officially an hon orary group by the adoption of a section of the constitution allowing the executive committee to amend the constitution by a four-fifths vote of its membership the change however is more in theory than in fact for the last meeting of the board was held in 1933 when mar tin m reed was editor in chief of the paper the board which from the found ing of the brown and white had consisted of approximately ten men declined when the brown and white was reorganized as a course in journalism in 1928 the board from that time consisted of at least 30 members and was too cumber some to transact the business of the paper it was replaced by the exec utive committee of five the editor in chief news manager editorial manager business manager and senior faculty adviser to rank with editor the business manager of the pa per is now equal in rank to the editor in chief but is no longer elig ible for election to the editorship the change was approved at the previous meeting of the board of publications the proposed dark room to be used by the brown and white pho tographers is the first step in the expansion of the physical property of the paper the development of news photography during the past semester under the direction of judson l schaeffer news manager and editor in chief elect necessitat ed equipment which would allow news pictures to be taken at the last moment and still be in time to appear in the paper the exact lo cation of the dark room has not yet been decided upon holds parents day stoughton discusses living groups at banquet fraternity life has the major dis advantages of leveling off individu ality in the college man declared prof bradley stoughton head of the department editor by c y haas the bach festival is over and 3.500 music lovers have returned to their homes inspired and uplifted by the music of the seventeenth century german musician as a prelude to the general fes tival 1,000 men and women mostly local jammed the chapel entrance before 7 o'clock thursday evening at the public rehearsal within 15 minutes nearly every one of the 1,200 available seats in packer chapel was occupied one woman a festival patron who had just ar rived from pittsburgh came in at 8:15 and said she wanted to hear the rehearsal as well as the regular program the capacity of the chapel was taxed again friday and saturday when 1,200 patrons heard the st matthew's passion and the mass in b minor performed by 300 singers soloists and accompanists they did nobly in the passion de spite a little friction between or chestra chorus and conductor but by far the greatest triumph of all was the performance of the mass in which all units combined to pre sent an effect one of three po sitions offered after 12 years as an instructor and student at lehigh richard j degray instructor in chemistry will leave the university on june 30 to accept an industrial position at present mr degray does not know definitely with what company he will work three positions are available a research job with the american cyanamide company sales promotion with the leeds & northrup company and a research job in the automotive laboratories of the socony-vacuum oil com pany mr degray will receive his doc tor's degree from columbia uni versity in october his work for the doctor's degree was begun in 1932 when he was given a fellowship in problems of higher education this was in recognition of the work done by him in organizing the student advisory system in the department of chemistry mr degray matriculated at le high in 1923 graduated in 1927 re ceived his master's degree in 1927 and was made an assistant in chem istry the following year in 1930 he became an instructor a also elected executive committee of brown and white sup plants student board governing since 1894 final financial statement of burr board is accepted control of the brown and white since the founding of the paper in 1894 in the hands of the board passed officially into the hands of the executive committee monday afternoon when the board of pub lications approved the new consti tution of the paper while the publications board which met in the office of dean c m mcconn was approving the ex pansion of the paper by sanctioning the equipping of a dark room it practically wrote finis to the history of the burr by accepting its final financial statement and allowing the burr board to close its accounts and distribute its profits robert b picking present local advertising assistant was approved as the new national advertising as sistant of the brown and white and philip l myers was approved as the advertising copy superviser of the paper board becomes honorary the board of the brown and white which formerly had the power to amend the constitution of the paper became officially an hon orary group by the adoption of a section of the constitution allowing the executive committee to amend the constitution by a four-fifths vote of its membership the change however is more in theory than in fact for the last meeting of the board was held in 1933 when mar tin m reed was editor in chief of the paper the board which from the found ing of the brown and white had consisted of approximately ten men declined when the brown and white was reorganized as a course in journalism in 1928 the board from that time consisted of at least 30 members and was too cumber some to transact the business of the paper it was replaced by the exec utive committee of five the editor in chief news manager editorial manager business manager and senior faculty adviser to rank with editor the business manager of the pa per is now equal in rank to the editor in chief but is no longer elig ible for election to the editorship the change was approved at the previous meeting of the board of publications the proposed dark room to be used by the brown and white pho tographers is the first step in the expansion of the physical property of the paper the development of news photography during the past semester under the direction of judson l schaeffer news manager and editor in chief elect necessitat ed equipment which would allow news pictures to be taken at the last moment and still be in time to appear in the paper the exact lo cation of the dark room has not yet been decided upon holds parents day stoughton discusses living groups at banquet fraternity life has the major dis advantages of leveling off individu ality in the college man declared prof bradley stoughton head of the department of metallurgical en gineering at the annual parents day banquet of the sigma nu fra ternity held last saturday evening at the hotel traylor in allentown confining himself to the disad vantages of editor by c y haas the bach festival is over and 3.500 music lovers have returned to their homes inspired and uplifted by the music of the seventeenth century german musician as a prelude to the general fes tival 1,000 men and women mostly local jammed the chapel entrance before 7 o'clock thursday evening at the public rehearsal within 15 minutes nearly every one of the 1,200 available seats in packer chapel was occupied one woman a festival patron who had just ar rived from pittsburgh came in at 8:15 and said she wanted to hear the rehearsal as well as the regular program the capacity of the chapel was taxed again friday and saturday when 1,200 patrons heard the st matthew's passion and the mass in b minor performed by 300 singers soloists and accompanists they did nobly in the passion de spite a little friction between or chestra chorus and conductor but by far the greatest triumph of all was the performance of the mass in which all units combined to pre sent an effect
