object of his affections — in the person of mrs r d billinger the plot of the play was a bit too far-fetched for its authors to do a professional job and one of the re sults was that edgar riley judge complete indifference but all ends happily and the farce was well re ceived phy sings lyrics second in the program was c wesley phy normally an english instructor who proved he is a tenor of some it may be argued that the facul ty club had the use of too much outside talent the make-up artist mrs hutchinson and the dancers for instance but wherever the tal ent came from the result was good entertainment of a type which might well be studied by mustard and cheese by p e p white everyone enjoyed himself at the faculty dramatic club's variety night friday whatever faults it may have had the performers were obviously getting a kick out of their parts the men behind the scenes were taking joy in surprising the audience with their stage sleight-of hand and the spectators were audibly being pleased by every thing an original farce by math prof stewart s cairns and his father opened the evening professor cairns as the very fast-talking bill shared acting honors with blossom — the object of his affections — in the person of mrs r d billinger the plot of the play was a bit too far-fetched for its authors to do a professional job and one of the re sults was that edgar riley judge beetenhoffer had trouble in re acting the way his lines demanded it was a little hard too for the audience to see why bill should want so badly to marry a girl for whom he shows little more than complete indifference but all ends happily and the farce was well re ceived phy sings lyrics second in the program was c wesley phy normally an english instructor who proved he is a tenor of some capability by singing three old english lyrics including the classic cherry ripe all of which were pleasing when the curtain opened next it was on henry viii at breakfast with catherine parr the dialogue was well designed but both henry in real life theodore ehrsam and catherine played by mrs s s cairns added materially to its en tertainment value it was a fine bit of comedy prof myron j luch
