the student chapter of the am erican civil engineering society elected its officers for next year on wednesday ballots were handed out to the members of the society and collected at the department of lehigh will play a promient part in a national radio program broad cast over weaf and the associat ed stations on that network on fri day evening april 27 from 8 to 9 o'clock on the regular cities ser vice hour the broadcast will include a brief address of greeting to alumni and other friends of lehigh throughout the country by president charles r richards lehigh participation in the broad cast has been made possible through the efforts of frank r coates 90 and henry l doherty 31 hon vice president and president respec tively of the cities service com pany coates is a member of the board of trustees of lehigh the new york lehigh club has also played an important part in fostering this arrangement and working out the details of the pro gram the program will include the meeting of the club to be held in the national broadcasting com pany's studios in radio city soprano is featured the regular program of the cities service company at this hour fea tures jessica dragonette soprano the cities service quartet and frank parker and his orchestra in addition to dr richards ad dress the program will be given a distinct lehigh flavor by means of several lehigh songs to be includ ed in the white he won the re view's short story contest this year deemer is also a member of the fencing team at their next meeting the board of publications will elect the other members of the review staff in sophomore and freshman classes had been spon sored by 335 backers the fresh man class leads in the number of candidates and sponsors with 11 candidates and 132 sponsors primaries and finals will be held on april 25 and 26 respectively in drown hall sponsors will auto matically vote for their first place choice in the primaries and also rate the remainder of the candi dates running in their class the two leading men in each class will automatically lose their second and third place votes while the reverse is true for those obtaining second and third places therefore it should be remem bered will participate the hours are from 2 to 5:30 in the af ternoon and from 7 to 10 in the evening moving pictures plays and many other features are being sponsored by the different departments a military drill and a concert by the glee club will be given those programs given by the different departments are as fol lows department of biology different types of germs and an exhibition of live reptiles and small animals may be seen many micro scopes are being used and biologi cal demonstrations are being given a lecture on live snakes at 4 and 9 and a lecture on human here dity and ing of ores and many different types of ray tubes the organic chemists are showing the use and making of dyes and some other in dustrial processes the process of making rayon from wood is being shown the tanning of leather and re search in textiles is being shown in the biochemistry laboratory the experiments include dry ice explo sive soap bubbles and the prepara tion of nitric acid small scale mod els of the laboratories of lavoisier davy and farady a motion picture is also being shown department of civil engineering the testing apparatus includes 300,000 500,000 and 800,000-lb test ing machines apparatus for the study of complicated stress and torsion is being presented while different types of pumps and tur bines are shown in the hydraulic laboratory books charts and draw ings of all the branches of civil en gineering are being exhibited department of education a contrast of the educational policies of 90 years ago with those of today is being made by this de partment the methods of punish ment and the types of examinations used nearly a century ago are shown in contrast with the modern methods of teaching and examina tion department of electrical engineering many devices that are in prac tical use every day are being shown by the electrical engineers a radiophone transmitter in oper ation a new public address system a burglar alarm and telephone and telegraph circuits in operation are included in this group a device operated by the breath a photo electric rifle range and half a cen tury of progress in electrical ma chinery are also being demonstrat ed generators and all types of mo tors will be on exhibit department of english the journalism department will go through the steps of putting out a newspaper using the news that comes in by a teletype news receiv ing machine which is connected with the associated press wire other devices connected with news paper work will also be shown many old newspapers and publica tions of other kinds will be to 9 o'clock on the regular cities ser vice hour the broadcast will include a brief address of greeting to alumni and other friends of lehigh throughout the country by president charles r richards lehigh participation in the broad cast has been made possible through the efforts of frank r coates 90 and henry l doherty 31 hon vice president and president respec tively of the cities service com pany coates is a member of the board of trustees of lehigh the new york lehigh club has also played an important part in fostering this arrangement and working out the details of the pro gram the military drill and concert by glee club to be given lectures and experiments by members of faculty also will entertain guests twenty thousand people are ex pected to attend the open house program on the campus this after noon and evening in which every department will participate the hours are from 2 to 5:30 in the af ternoon and from 7 to 10 in the evening moving pictures plays and many other features are being sponsored by the different departments a military drill and a concert by the glee club will be given those programs given by the different departments are as fol lows department of the testing apparatus includes 300,000 500,000 and 800,000-lb test ing machines apparatus for the study of complicated stress and torsion is being presented while different types of pumps and tur bines are shown in the hydraulic laboratory books charts and draw ings of all the branches of civil en gineering are being exhibited department of education a contrast of the educational policies of 90 years ago with those of today is being made by this de partment the methods of punish ment and the types of examinations used nearly a century ago are shown in contrast with the modern methods of teaching and examina tion department of electrical engineering many devices that are in prac tical use every day are being shown by the electrical engineers a radiophone transmitter in oper ation a new public address system a burglar alarm and telephone and telegraph circuits in operation are included in this group a device operated by the breath a photo electric rifle range and half a cen tury of progress in electrical ma chinery are also being demonstrat ed generators and all types of mo tors will be on exhibit department of english the journalism department will go through the steps of putting out a newspaper using the news that comes in by a teletype news receiv ing machine which is connected with the associated press wire other devices connected with news paper work will also be
