- the brown and white - lehigh university's student newspaper founded in 1894 vol 112 no 46 all the lehigh news first friday april 22 2005 taylor to house non-applicants by lucy mele news writer taylor residential college will be opening its doors this fall to all upperclass students in order to accommodate the increased housing needs caused by the new sophomore residen cy requirement taylor currently has a few rooms closed off due to vacancy that will be needed next semes ter when more students are required to live on campus tom dubreuil associate dean of students for residence life said every available bed space is needed members of the college which has its own application and selection process will live intermingled with students in taylor house who did not apply dubreuil said residency will be restricted to upperclass students only dubreuil thinks that filling these rooms could eventually benefit the college and increase its popularity hopefully it will be an even better place for students because it will always be full and people will want to live there he said taylor college is known to its residents for the overwhelming sense of community i always looked at taylor as a very multicultural place where everyone is friends with every one else said vera partem 06 a gryphon in the building the interaction is amazing because it's everyone from freshmen to upperclassmen dubreuil said he thinks taylor is a great student dorm in some ways it's the ideal residential community he said they have fun up there but are very serious academically however many of the resi dents are upset with the upcom ing changes and see them as a threat to the atmosphere that they have built getting rid of this communi ty is not a good way to fill the rooms said second-year resi dent sara degroot 07 the university tells students how they want a diverse campus and a sense of community on campus taylor is one of the most diverse dorms and the one with the biggest sense of community and now they're taking that away taylor offers a variety of activities for its residents such as dinners formals and various cul tural and educational events dubreuil said all residents will have the option of partici pating in these programs next year regardless of whether they are enrolled in taylor college some taylor college mem bers are upset with this outcome the people who live there now chose to live there partem said they wrote essays to get into the building they knew about the atmosphere of taylor another unique quality of the college is the in-residence faculty master and 70 faculty fellows which gives students the oppor tunity to informally interact with their professors this program will remain in place nothing is disappearing it just may look a little different dubreuil said however some taylor college members disagree rea soning that people who do not freshman strips during contest by kate mcloughlin and emily schulman news editor news writer an underage drunken alpha sigma phi fraternity brother removed all of his clothes during the mr lehigh competition monday night at grace hall and was charged with disorderly con duct and underage drinking according to police samuel korff 08 was danc ing during the talent competition when he removed his bathing suit revealing the animal print thong he was wearing under it b&w photo by nishika vidanage as he was being removed from the stage korff removed the thong and was naked in front of the audience he was taking off his pants with music playing in the back ground and i guess his member just happened to pop out said rob zoppel 07 a phi kappa theta fraternity brother noah sunflower 08 also saw korff during the competition i saw a man in a thong that was falling off he said in an e-mail to fraternity presi dents meredith anderson 06 samuel korff 08 was charged with disorderly conduct and underage drinking after removing his bathing suit at the mr lehigh competition photo project addresses stigmas by claire lefevre coordinators seek to debunk nude photo project's misconceptions news writer coordinators explained their intentions the r.e.a.l women's project has been a hot topic around campus for the past few weeks beginning when controversy arose about pho tographing nude faceless lehigh students the coordinators of the r.e.a.l women project marisa enrico 07 hailey witt 07 and alex milspaw 07 said they may have want ed the nude photographs to be a part of the exhibit when they were completed with the proj ect but they did not want the photographs to represent the project in the public's eye the purpose of the project is to allow women of lehigh that have been sexually assaulted raped felt mistreat ed feel insecure about their bodies or even women who have concerns regarding the treatment of women on cam pus to have a voice milspaw said and most importantly let that voice be heard the r.e.a.l women project attempts to create an opportunity for the women of lehigh to have the chance to speak out through photogra phy and personal statements about the issues that affect women milspaw said they want to help them see that after going through say a sexual assault they can reclaim their bodies feel comfortable with them selves again and go through a healing process which will allow them to feel confident and secure once more ultimately the project's the r.e.a.l women project organized a meeting tuesday night for anyone who had interests or concerns con cerning the project's miscon ceptions and apprehensions several students came to the meeting with reservations toward the intentions of the projects goals and the mes sages r.e.a.l would be pro moting to the lehigh commu nity during the discussion the see contestant page 3 see taylor page 3 see
