the brown and white lehigh university's student newspaper founded in 1894 vol 112 no 41 tuesday april 5 2005 all the lehigh news first robbery suspects arrested by patrick fulton five suspects were arrested by campus police minutes after assaulting and robbing a male student friday evening accord ing to police a female resident of campus square who spoke on the condition of anonymity said she and a friend were walking from the campus square parking garage to campus square b when they heard shouting on asa drive the woman then noticed the five males split up and run in two directions two or three ran toward packard laboratory and the others ran toward fifth street she said the victim who was also a resident of campus square approached the women and told them he had been mugged he then contacted campus police by using an emergency call box at 11:17 p.m according to police a police officer who was out of uniform arrived at the scene on foot two minutes after the call a police car arrived shortly afterward the police responded very quickly the woman said they were there in a matter of min utes the woman said she saw the first officer run after at least two of the suspects on fifth street she did not witness the actual arrests however the woman described the suspects as hispanic males in their mid-teens i saw five boys run in two different directions she said they looked about 16 the male victim told police that one of the suspects had corn rows and threatened him with a screwdriver the victim was struck by one of the suspects and sustained minor injuries one of the suspects has been identified as bethlehem resident gustavo rivera 18 the other four suspects are juveniles their names will not be released four of the suspects were committed to northampton county prison on 50,000 bail each rivera and three of the juveniles have been charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery one 14-year old suspect is being questioned but has not been formally charged the incident is under inves tigation edward shupp chief of lehigh police sent a campus wide safety bulletin to students faculty and staff the day after the robbery the incident is the second attack on a lehigh student in the past week a 21-year-old male student was robbed and cut on the leg on east fourth street last monday that incident is still under investigation senior news writer police release intruder sketch by keenan pontoni assistant news editor in coordination with the bethlehem police department lehigh police released a com posite sketch thursday of the intruder who harassed a stu dent living off campus on march 18 the sketch was sent to all lehigh students in a campus wide safety bulletin thursday the police said they have been committed to solving the case and providing students and bethlehem residents with necessary information i wanted to get the sketch into the hands of the lehigh community as soon as it was made available to us edward shupp chief of police said in the e-mail the sketch portrays the unidentified intruder who entered the female student's off-campus house and sat on a bed where the student was sleeping the student left her door unlocked that night she told police the brown and white first reported about the intruder case on march 25 after a brief conversation between the intruder and the student during which the man told her that his name was eric the woman asked the intruder to leave she told police the intruder then left the house the victim told police the victim told police she did not report the intrusion immediately because she was frightened she described the intruder as a white man 25 to 30 years old with dark brown hair and dark eyes according to police the woman reported that the intruder was about b feet tall and weighed approximate ly 185 pounds the case has been under police investigation since it was reported on march 18 shupp said that anyone who sees a man resembling the sketch or has additional information about the incident should contact the police department lehigh police in association with the bethlehem police released this sketch of the intruder on march 31 police are looking for the man who entered a female student's off campus house and sat on her bed while she was sleeping real women to be photographed nude by claire lefevre news writer nude photographs of female lehigh students will be displayed next fall in an effort to promote positive body images among women called the radically empowered authentic lehigh women project the project is abbreviated the real women project and is sponsored by the body and power alliance the alliance is a group of stu dents and faculty who promote the health of body and mind through the women's center the project will show lehigh students in the nude through pho tography like pictures shown in the century project in the ijlrich center last month by photogra pher and artist frank cordelle the coordinator of the body and power alliance marisa enrico 07 said she hopes this project will hit closer to home for students than the century project did because they will see their friends and peers in the pho tographs one aspect of lehigh's r.e.a.l women project that dif fers from cordelle's century project is that the lehigh students photographed will be anony mous their faces will not be shown in any of the pictures the goal of the project will still be similar to cordelle's in trying to show that all women are beau tiful in a statement regarding his project on his web site cordelle said the project is an important and much needed concept century is admittedly a little out there cordelle said yet it has a very clear track record of having helped an awful lot of people and it has the potential to help an untold number of others as its audience continues to grow lehigh students who saw his works in the ulrich center sup port cordelle's cause by under standing the significance of his work helena glebocki 07 saw the century project it was interesting to see how the younger women that were being photographed had a more negative image she said but the older women you could see that they really loved themselves accepted themselves and knew that they were beautiful enrico said she hopes r.e.a.l women will portray that everybody is beautiful in their own way and you don't have to fit a mold to be beautiful hailey witt 07 one of the project's coordinators explained the organization process at the beginning of the year when we were talking about hav ing the century project come to lehigh one of the women at the center came up with the idea that we could do something similar at lehigh for women who wanted an opportunity like the century project witt said with the body and power alliance trying to start the project in the fall they received cordelle's advice and support in getting started the women involved in the century project were all positive ly affected by their experiences so
