at the smoker held last night in taylor gymnasium bosey reiter acting as master of ceremonies at the smoker wel comed the visiting teams their coaches and members of the nat ional collegiate wrestling rules committee to lehigh no matter what the referee's de cisions may be or whether they may appear a little strict it must be remembered that the referee knows a little more about wrest ling than the layman he is trying to follow the strict rules set down by the national collegiate wrest ling rules committee stated billy sheridan coach of lehigh's team play fair and refrain from wild cheering for lehigh wrestlers and booing and heckling the oppo nents said martin m reed presi dent of arcadia in addressing the smoker remember that lehigh is just a neutral place for the meet discusses wrestling dr r g clapp of the univer sity of nebraska chairman of the national collegiate wrestling rules committee spoke on the ad vantages of wrestling as a sport he said that wrestling and boxing are the only two sports in which every man no matter what his weight is may compete on equal terms with every other person by far all the wrestling is not done on the mat some of the out standing exhibitions of wrestling are done on the side lines stated dr r c bull director of the stu dent health service who probably sees more of the lehigh students than any other man in the univer sity according to bosey reiter bench wrestling as this style of wrestling is called is played by many men who do not compete on the team in this sport said dr bull describes styles capt pete peck pointed out to the group at the smoker that there are many styles of wrestling the lehigh audience is accustomed to the eastern style which lehigh uses but there will be many other styles used the lehigh audience will have to become acquainted with various antics that the wes tern wrestlers will use this style is used not to show off as many lehigh supporters are inclined to think but to worry the opponent and put him off his guard the ohio state coach gave the audience an interesting side light on bosey reiter that it is a be lief of the dunkards that if a new born baby is kissed on the eye brows he will become a great statesman and if kissed on the lips the baby will be a great orator however he went on to say that he was not sure where bosey reiter had been kissed but the fact still remains that bosey is a great chairman the new brown bathrobes for the wrestling team were formally pre sented to frank delano manager of the wrestling team by reed total number of line-ups reaches 31 as lehigh ohio university swelled the total num ber of wrestlers in the sixth annual championship meet of the national collegiate athletic association now in progress in taylor gym to 98 the teams started arriving wed nesday when the oklahoma a and m cowboys wearing their usual traveling clothes sombres boots and overalls rode into bethlehem in mud-covered fords in all 31 colleges and universi ties from all parts of the country have filed entries of from a single j man to a full team of eight men lehigh and oklahoma a and m are the only colleges entering com plete teams the university of indiana last year's winner of the mythical team title and western conference champions this year has a power ful seven man aggregation compet ing the entry includes five men who won first places in the confer ence meet two weeks ago and one runner-up in the same meet oklahoma a and m which has compiled the almost unbelievable record of winning 84 of its 89 dual meets since the sport was intro duced there in 1916 is considered to have an excellent chance to de throne the hoosiers the aggies at one time had a string of 71 con secutive dual meet victories given outside chance while these two teams are the fa vorites the brown and white out fit fresh from its third straight e i w a victory is conceded an outside chance to win » some idea of the quality of the entries was obtained at the smoker last night when hugo otopalic lowa state coach and head coach of the american olympic wrestling team last year stated that the bouts today and tomorrow should produce wrestling as good or better than that in the olympics last year the 118-lb class will bring to gether two men who went as far as the finals in olympic tryouts they are joe puerta illinois defending champion and big ten 118-lb title holder and rex peery of oklaho ma a and m although this divi sion has the fewest entries of any class in the meet the presence of these two men along with lehigh's milo meixell make it one of the most interesting in the matches due to the possibility of another meeting between ben bishop of lehigh and maynard harman of lowa state teachers college ben's conqueror in the olympic final tryouts last year interest in the 145-lb class runs high bishop harman and capt dale goings of indiana big ten champ for the past two years form a trio of the finest grapplers in college wrestling teague is
