the brown and white lehigh university's student newspaper founded in 1894 vol 112 no 22 friday november 19 2004 all the lehigh news first arrest pending for hillside attack by olivier lewis news writer bethlehem police are await ing approval from the district attorney's office to press charges against a suspect in the attack on adam demilio in october bethlehem police lt stuart bedics of said the investiga tion is continuing bedics would not say if the suspect was a lehigh student however previous statements from the police said that someone from lehigh may be linked to the attack bedics said he didn't know how long it would take the district attorney's office to decide if there is probable cause for arrest when asked how demilio's family is handling the situa tion bedics said they want to see somebody brought to justice bryan jones 05 president of delta phi fraternity and a lifelong friend of demilio said demilio's health was improv ing jones said that demilio has awoken after several weeks of unconsciousness he said he is optimistic about his friend's recovery jones visits him on a regu lar basis he has been moved from intensive care jones said he is conscious now he is writing and he is trying to talk jones said that demilio was going to be transferred to the good shepherd rehabilitation hospital in bethlehem for therapy during his rehabilitation demilio will relearn basic acts such as swallowing and talk ing the 21-year-old shippensburg university stu dent was struck twice in the head from behind by a male assailant leaving him with a fractured skull and internal bleeding the attack occurred oct 16 on packer avenue after demilio his cousin ryan mccauley and a friend of mccauley's left leon's bar & restaurant on east fifth street demilio was taken to st luke's hospital later in the night where he received med ical attention and underwent an operation to drain blood from his brain bedics described the attack as potentially life-threatening according to st luke's hospital his condition on arrival was extremely critical bethlehem police said they have been working together with campus police in ques tioning a number of witnesses over the students gathered in maginnes hall tuesday to hear the views of hannan hever a leading israeli intellectual hever explored the different perspectives on the israeli palestinian conflict in his lec ture no easy answers the impossible plight of the intellectual in today's israel the lecture focused on the dilemma intellectuals encounter when analyzing the conflict sur rounding the israeli-palestinian conflict hever pointed out the differ ences between the universalist values and the values of diose committed to israel there is a long way to go with universalism in israeli soci ety hever said hever's remedy for defus ing the israeli-palestinian con flict asks intellectuals to free themselves from bondage of the concept of occupation they must engage in criti cism continue to
