the brown and white lehigh university's student newspaper founded in 1894 vol 112 no 14 friday october 22 2004 all the lehigh news first lehigh withholds releases sketch by john misinco editor in chief for three weeks lehigh police had a composite sketch of a sus pected prowler who targeted female students in off-campus homes but the department did not release the sketch to the cam pus until tuesday one day after an nbc 10 news story drew widespread attention to the case in a sept 1 article the brown and white first reported on the prowler who has entered female students homes at night and sometimes touched the women while watching them sleep at least six such incidents were reported since august now questions are being raised as to why the administra tion did not notify the campus about the sketch when it was first released by bethlehem police in a joint interview wednesday john smeaton vice provost for student affairs and police chief edward shupp defended lehigh's handling of the case saying that because the investigation is still open and being handled by bethlehem police the university is not allowed to comment on it one thing we can never do is provide information on a city investigation or even our own investigation shupp said if we have something that doesn't jeop ardize our case of course we would release that however the sketch had already appeared in the morning call on sept 28 -
