train which is to carry them far above cayuga's waters to the lair of their rivals with the team are three wise men who lurk in the shadows and con verse in low whispers ahl it bodes no good when the train pulls in these three climb boldly aboard but once inside they take on the furtive manner of criminals about to com mit crime to clarify matters a bit it would not be amiss at this point to iden tify the trio wise men nos 1 2 and 3 respectively are three crafty phi sigs robert moore bus 36 john nilan c e 35 and paul scholia e m 35 moore disguises himself as a po lo coat and crawls into an upper berth which contains more apparel of the same nature he remains un der this incognito for the major portion of the trip crawl beneath seats scholia and nilan crawl beneath seats in the coach and assume the attitude of foot-rests they remain here for an indefinite period — un til they almost believe that they are foot-rests but now to the accompaniment of sinister music we shall intro duce the villain the lehigh sta tion agent who is really sherlock holmes in disguise has overheard the plot to filch a ride from the lehigh valley r r co and—be ing in nowise a person to be fooled by them slick college fellers — he has informed the conductors the search is on moore crafty lad has bribed a porter george by name for the sum of 50 cents he is to be warned of the approach of the conductors george proves reliable and with a whispered ethiopian accent he warns wise man no 1 of the search wise man no 1 crawls from his place among the coats and climbs into a berth wherein slumb ers milo meixell lehigh's famous grappler _ discovers culprits wise men nos 2 and 3 do not fare so well at towanda one of the intelligent conductors recall ing that foot-rests do not snore discovers the culprits when the train pulls into towanda station they leave they continue the journey by auto bus and shank's mare this delays them no little but neverthe less they arrive in time to see le high on friday morning mr williams one of the organ izers of the farmer labor party is touring the country making ar rangements for a conference to be held the early part of june in washington the purpose of this conference will be to challenge the democratic administration on the question of whether it has carried out the relief measures on its pro gram in his discussion williams point ed out that a redistribution of wealth in the country is becoming more necessary through quoting statistics he showed that since 1922 the concentration of wealth is be coming more pronounced lack of buying power engineer of lehigh is vice presi dent in charge of engineering of the philadelphie electric company he was at one time superintendent of the conowingo plant located in maryland on the susquehanna river near the pennsylvania border dam is mile long the dam almost a mile long from bank to bank and with walls 85 feet wide at the base is equipped with gates 40 feet wide and 22 feet deep the normal power production of the plant is 250,000 kilowatts mr funk said the flow of the riv er supplying this power is 42,000 second feet mr funk supplemented his talk with slides of graphs showing wa ter flow and load variations scenes of the site of the dam and cross section diagrams of the plant were also shown the development in cluding the coffer dam was shown in several stages of construction in order to prevent ice from forming around the gates and causing them to buckle water is pumped from tail race level to the top of the dam this water warmer than that on top successfully com bats ice new york city the treasurer who is now spend ing a fortnight in bermuda will at tempt to explain to bulletin read ers the steps taken recently by the administration to cut down main tenance expenses mr edmonds is to contribute an article on his and his late wife's international students dormitory project one of these dormitories is nearing completion in new york city it will house foreign men now attending new york university similar plans are being carried out in chicago and on the west coast laborist speaks to class in state government and to lehigh faculty if something is not done within six months there will be bloodshed and strife throughout the united states especially in chicago and detroit declared howard y wil liams national director of the lea gue for independent political ac tion in addressing the state govern ment class on friday morning mr williams one of the organ izers of the farmer labor party is touring the country making ar rangements for a conference to be held the early part of june in washington the purpose of this conference will be to challenge the democratic administration on the question of whether it has carried out the relief measures on its pro gram in his discussion williams point ed out that a redistribution of wealth in the country is becoming more necessary through quoting statistics he showed that since 1922 the concentration of wealth is be coming more pronounced lack of buying power for the masses is the result mr williams also spoke to mem bers of the lafayette and lehigh faculties at a dinner thursday and to the exchange club of bethlehem and made a public address that eve ning in all of these addresses he indicated the possibility of organ izing a third major party which would be founded on a progressive platform he pointed out that this party would not be connected with the socialist party funk speaks to electricals on conowingo big dam and power plant described at meeting by former superintendent and lehigh graduate the mile long dam and connected power plant at conowingo were de scribed by nevin e funk,'os at the electrical engineering society meeting friday evening tentative plans for a society par ty to be held in the latter part of march were made at the meeting it will probably be a dinner affair in the d a r hall on first ave nue ben d beach president said thursday march 23 is being con sidered as the date for the party mr funk a graduate electrical engineer of lehigh is vice presi dent in charge of engineering of the philadelphie electric company he was at one time superintendent of the conowingo plant located in maryland on the susquehanna river near the pennsylvania border dam is mile long the dam almost a mile long from bank to bank and with walls 85 feet wide at the base is equipped with gates 40 feet wide and 22 feet deep the normal power production of the plant is 250,000 kilowatts mr funk said the flow of the riv er supplying this power is 42,000 second feet mr funk supplemented his talk with slides of graphs showing wa ter flow and load variations scenes of the site of the dam and cross section diagrams of the plant were also shown the development in cluding the coffer dam was shown in several stages of construction in order to prevent ice from forming around the gates and causing them to buckle water is pumped from tail race level to the top of the dam this water warmer than that on top successfully com bats ice jamming near the gates mr funk said pike crosses river the baltimore pike crosses the river on top of the dam the con struction of the roadway was ne cessary because the old bridge a half mile above the power develop ment was completely submerged when the dam was finished mr funk described how the transmission lines run from the de velopment besides running to the distribution stations of the phila delphia electric company the 220 kilovolt lines also connect with the systems of the public service in newark and the pennsylvania power and said that the lecturer will deal with some phase of the rela tion between the artist and the pub lic professor traquair is a man of broad interests and great culture professor howland stated he has written two articles which have ap peared in the atlantic monthly regiment of women which ap peared in the march 1929 issue is an amusing and satirical discussion of the domineering influence of wo model league tobeattended by 23 colleges assembly sponsored by international relations club will convene at lehigh april 6 to 8 will discuss world problems in two plenary sessions here twenty-three colleges have made arrangements to send delegates to the assembly of the model league of nations which will convene at lehigh on april 6 7 and 8 an nounced james e anderson arts 34 president of the international relations club the league in session this year will concern its discussion mainly with 1 the manchurian crisis and the lytton report 2 a general treaty for the control of the man ufacture and trade of arms and mu nitions and 3 a plan for the so lution of world unemployment pertinent to the league besides these topics the first plenary session will be partly de voted to the messages of four of the countries represented on topics which these countries may consider pertinent to the league league copies geneva the league attempts to conduct its business along the same lines as the league of nations at gene va switzerland all countries are given a chance to state their opin ions on matters through the same methods used in the league of na tions assemblies the model league
