tampering with the new alarm system or turning in a false alarm will be turned over to the discipline com mittee in less than 24 hours and in my opinion he will probably be expelled from school for a period of not less than one semester but in case one should discover a bona-fide fire with smoke and flames and all of the other charac teristics of a real fire he may turn in the alarm in fact he is politely requested to do so break glass pull knob by smacking the glass door with the little hammer attached to the side of the box and pulling the hook thus disclosed all the way down he will soon have all the bells in the building competing in no uncertain tones with all the pro fessors lecturing in the place andrew w litzenberger super intendent of grounds informed arcadia scorns lacrosse action arcadia secretary urges attendance of class agents the senior junior and sopho more classes are not being rep resented at arcadia meetings e h robb secretary of arcadia announces that the representa tives of these classes have not been attending recent meetings of that body new constitution states that the secretary of arcadia shall notify any group tba it is not being represented in that body after three consecutive ab sences of the group's represen tative and that by such absences it is losing its voice in student affairs house parties are planned weekend of april 29 set by interfraternity coun cil for spring dances that spring house parties will be held the week-end of april 29 was decided at the last meeting of the interfraternity council tuesday afternoon feb 21 the council rejected the new con stitution that was drawn up and placed before the body saying that the old constitution was satisfac tory to the council the only rushing rule according to pres j a aufhammer that is obeyed to any extent by any of the fraternities is the 9 o'clock rule the suggestion was made that if any freshman be caught out after 9 p.m during rushing season accompanied by a fraternity man he should automatically be barred from being rushed by any fraternity until aft er the second semester this sug gestion was placed before a com mittee for future discussion complete information about the fraternities at lehigh will be placed in the lehigh union office in drown hall and is to be open to the inspection of anyone at any time this information will include the standing of every fraternity both financially and scholastically incoming freshmen are to be in formed as to the nature and re strictions of all the rushing rules at a lecture held during freshman week said aufhammer press representatives that the alarms are merely to notify the occupants of a building that things are be coming hot in their territory the bells summon no fire apparatus this is to be done by phone after the alarm has been sounded complies with state law litzenberger says the alarms were installed merely to comply with a state law to the effect that all school buildings containing more than four class rooms must be ade quately equipped with fire alarms the law specifies adequate equip ment as that in which the boxes are no more than 100 feet apart this explains the fact that the memorial building drown hall the armory the gym and taylor and price halls have not been equipped with alarms litzenberger says that university officials were not in fa vor of the expense and did not con sider the fire hazards sufficient to warrant alarm installation but that the passage of the law necessitated the action for this reason all buildings which could possibly be exempted under the provisions of the law that is buildings which do not ac tually contain more than four class rooms were not equipped the approximate cost of installa tion was 5,000 all in all the tampering with the new alarm system or turning in a false alarm will be turned over to the discipline com mittee in less than 24 hours and in my opinion he will probably be expelled from school for a period of not less than one semester but in case one should discover a bona-fide fire with smoke and flames and all of the other charac teristics of a real fire he may turn in the alarm in fact he is politely requested to do so break glass pull knob by smacking the glass door with the little hammer attached to the side of the box and pulling the hook thus disclosed all the way down he will soon have all the bells in the building competing in no uncertain tones with all the pro fessors lecturing in the place andrew w litzenberger super intendent of grounds informed arcadia scorns lacrosse interfraternity coun cil for spring dances that spring house parties will be held the week-end of april 29 was decided at the last meeting of the interfraternity council tuesday afternoon feb 21 the council rejected the new con stitution that was drawn up and placed before the body saying that the old constitution was satisfac tory to the council the only rushing rule according to pres j a aufhammer that is obeyed to any extent by any of the fraternities is the 9 o'clock rule the suggestion was made that if any freshman be caught out after 9 p.m during rushing season accompanied by a fraternity man he should automatically be barred from being rushed by any fraternity until aft er the second semester this sug gestion was placed before a com mittee for future discussion complete information about the fraternities at lehigh will be placed in the lehigh union office in drown hall and is to be open to the inspection of anyone at any time this information will include the standing of every fraternity both financially and scholastically incoming freshmen are to be in formed as to the nature and re strictions of all the rushing rules at a lecture held during freshman week said aufhammer press representatives that the alarms are merely to notify the occupants of a building that things are be coming hot in their territory the bells summon no fire apparatus this is to be done by phone after the alarm has been sounded complies with state law litzenberger says the alarms were installed merely to comply with a state law to the effect that all school buildings containing more than four class rooms must be ade quately equipped with fire alarms the law specifies adequate equip ment as that in which the boxes are no more than 100 feet apart this explains the fact that the memorial building drown hall the armory the gym and taylor and price halls have not been equipped with alarms litzenberger says that university officials were not in fa vor of the expense and did not con sider the fire hazards sufficient to warrant alarm installation but that the passage of the law necessitated the action for this reason all buildings which could possibly be exempted under the provisions of the law that is buildings which do not ac tually contain more than four class rooms were not equipped the approximate cost of installa tion was 5,000 all in all the
