meeting held wednesday lt col george r harrison in fantry u s army has been de tailed by the war department as professor of military science and tactics at lehigh university the appointment is made effective dn or about july 1 1932 col harrison has been connected with the organized reserves in baltimore md since 1927 a native of indiana col harri son attended wabash college for two years prior to his appointment to the u s military academy at west point in 1903 upon gradua tion from west point he was com missioned a second lieutenant and assigned to duty in the philippines col harrison was assigned to sta tion at fort george wright wash when he returned to the u s in 1909 served in arizona after serving in hawaii from 1912-1916 he was assigned to the 11th infantry at douglas ariz where he served in the mexican border troubles in 191 he was as signed to duty at cornell univer sity as professor of m s & t during the war he was assigned to duty at various training camps throughout the country some of which are fort niaga n v and selfridge field mich in 1908 col harrison was de tailed in the office of the chief of militia bureau in washington in 1919 he was on special duty in charge of that year's graduating class at west point on their post graduate tour of the battlefields of prance germany belgium and italy the students of economic geology visited the new jersey zinc mines at franklin n j yesterday prof howard eckfeldt head of the de partment of mining engineering dr benjamin miller head of the geolo gy department and dr donald fraser of the geology department together with 25 students made the trip the group was shown through the stone crusher after viewing the surface geological features of the country around the mines r l mccann 17 general superinten dent of the mines acted as guide for the party franklin furnace is a geological wonder'place for more than 150 different minerals are found there some of which are found nowhere else in the world on the return to bolton bus 34 gerald w ullmann arts 34 and lindsay rowland arts 34 lawrence h gipson head of the department of history and govern ment accompanied the group to syracuse lehigh represents nations the lehigh students are repre sening peru and germany at the moled league many of the leading colleges of new jersey new york and pennsylvania are represented at this assembly which is sponsor ed by a division of the carnegie foundation the model league as sembly is conducted in a manner very similar to that of the league of nations at geneva switzerland the committee which is to rep resent germany has been in touch with dr freidrich wilhelm yon prittwitz the german ambassador to america and with dr riep the german consul general to new york the peruvian committee has also been in touch with the peru vian ambassador to the united states donald s sawyer is chair man of the committee on germany and blake b hammond is chairman of the committee on peru lehigh and lafayette fac ulties to study local formations the members of the faculty of the departments of geology of le high and lafayette will entertain a group of pennsylvania geologists on may 28 to 30 both faculties ac companied by dr braford willard of the state geological survey at harrisburg went over the proposed route for the principal trip last sunday the program will start with ge ological trips to slate and cement quarries and to ringing rocks on the delaware on the afternoon of may 28 on the next day the entire party will study the geological sec tion along the delaware river from easton to stroudsburg and down the
