the brown and white lehigh university's student newspaper founded in 1894 vol 109 no 44 tuesday april 30 2002 all the lehigh news first sorority gives funds to luag by jasmine foreman news writer alpha chi omega sorority presented zoellner arts center with a check for 4,000 in a cer emony saturday sealing the new partnership between the two organizations a chi o formed the partner ship in support of the lehigh art galleries operation children's workshop series the luag workshop series was designed to bring children from the sur rounding community into the arts center for guided tours and projects in addition to saturday's cer emony the day marked the first a chi o sponsored exhibit fea turing eight original bronze sculptures by auguste rodin ricardo viera professor of art and art galleries director said he was excited about the new col laboration because it is opening doors for a chi o to participate in the many events that happen at zoellner we are creating a partner ship with a very important part of our community a sorority viera said jess davidson 04 vice pres ident of finance for a chi o spearheaded the project after looking over our budget i realized we had funds to invest in something over and beyond what we've done in the past she said davidson a museum studies minor said she wanted her house to become involved with some thing that would benefit the lehigh sorority alpha chi omega allen wins outcast bahamas trip by mia yantis news writer jason allen 02 ate cat food sang the theme song to barney pretended to be britney spears stripping down to his orange boxer shorts friday night in lower grace hall to beat out 13 contestants and win a weekend trip to the bahamas in university productions outcast game show about 100 people showed up to cheer for the contestants who were dressed in wild outfits and mix-matched attire one contes tant had his underwear on over his jeans and a tiny t-shirt that said i like boys on it the idea was to try and win the approval of the audience and contestants were willing to do anything to achieve that the 14 contestants were rep resentatives from various student organizations such as the panhellenic and interfratemity councils gryphon society residence hall association and student senate the contestants were put in two teams and competed against each other until just two were left to batde it out missy morris 03 from panhel and jason allen 02 from ifc were the final two contes tants i went in ready for any thing morris said i guess the audience just liked jason better derek wilson 04 a contestant from the gryphon society said he too had prepared himself for a fun and unpredictable evening wilson and the other con testants had to collect random undergarments from members of the audience in a scavenger hunt he said he believed he was too good at the outcast game and that was probably the reason for his getting voted off i was a strong link and the other team voted me off because of it wilson said the voting process also involved the audience there were five audience members who were randomly picked to represent their audience section after each contest the audi ence representatives would gauge their section's reaction and vote for a team it was ultimately the deci sion of the audience who would stay and who would go booing cheering and screaming were the methods of approval or condemnation for the audience adam kornfield 04 and meghan sinneck 05 are the co-directors of up special events committee and were at the helm of the game show pro ductions kornfield said he was pleased that the committee decided to bring the game show to lehigh and thought it was well received by the audience and contestants it's a good way to get the campus involved kornfield said the outcast game is run by an outside business called power performers inc that puts on events like this all over the country sinneck said the company warned her and the contestants global union celebrates five years by ally pereg news writer the global union celebrated its fifth anniversary of contribu tion to both the university and the lehigh valley community friday the organization began in may 1997 with a few dedicated students and sought to create an organization that promoted cultural awareness and under standing today the global union is one of the largest clubs at lehigh with more than 600 members while its membership repre sents more than 30 countries nearly two-thirds of its members hail from the united states i feel that we are all about making people aware and edu cated sometimes it is cultural other times political but what is important is that we are on top of news and events in the world thus often accommodating inter ests of many people said masako asaka vice president of the global union among the original students who inducted the global union was supervisor judith ranee roney who began the anniver sary celebration with a descrip tion of how it all began the students found their commonality they found that they were all quite similar they were not clearly their own culture they were not entirely american their identity became an amalgam of every culture rance-roney said one cannot live in this world without being unchanged untouched without the wonderful process of inter nalizing culture bill hunter director of the global union said he is
