food business on campus parked behind rauch business center is a little red and white wagon offering a variety of lunchtime snacks including hot dogs pizza egg rolls mozzarella sticks fried rice hot pretzels and soups operated by independent entrepreneur rocco maniscalco the stand opened its windows for business monday i'm not looking to make a killing maniscalco said i'm looking to make a living my ultimatum is to get people to come back customer calvin reszek bethlehem resident said he liked the new stand i thought it was really excel lent and the prices are right reszek said another bethlehem resident mark baldi traveled from the north side to sample the food this place is awesome baldi said they have better tasting hot dogs and you can't beat their price and location i've waited for some thing like this for years some were not pleased however with the new face in the campus food business maniscalco said earlier this week a wood employee confronted him and demanded that he permits from the city in order to operate his stand and purchase the two parking meter spaces it takes up although business has been rocco maniscalco re-opens his trailer for hungry students spencer balboni 04 and sadie scotch 05 maniscalco sells snacks such as his signature fried oreos campus square to host bethlehem dairy store by blair tapper news writer the cup a bethlehem ice cream institution will be opening a store in the campus square development on the corner facing morton street the cup co-owner william burkhardt said the bethlehem dairy store which has been in existence for over 70 years has wanted a presence on bethlehem's south side we are absolutely thrilled with the plans burkhardt said the cup will feature hard packed homemade ice cream fat free soft serve ice cream and an array of novelties ranging from banana splits to milk shakes they are planning on providing both dine in and takeout services hopefully the new dining services that open in campus square will provide students with more variety jani actman 05 said the cup is scheduled to open by the time students return to lehigh in late august burkhardt said he has been told by lehigh officials that the cup will be involved in some type of grand opening to coincide with founder's day next fall the cup was one of several ice cream parlors contacted by lehigh officials to lease the space in the campus square development the cup had been contacted from the start said barry gaal associate vice president of business services gaal said he is excited about the cup coming to lehigh if you are from bethlehem the cup is the place to go for ice cream gaal said burkhardt said the store will stay open as long as customers want to eat we want to try to tailor it to the needs of students burkhardt said this attitude of adapting to students needs came as a pleas ant surprise to some students it would be great if it would stay open late i feel like so many other places on campus are never open when students want to eat ari sacks 05 said students will be able to use their south mountain gold plus dollars to make purchases at the cup this coincides with the plan to make south mountain gold plus use avail able at several other locations on the south side gaal said the details of the plans are still in the works but he hopes this will help inte grate lehigh with the south side with the opening of the other ice cream parlor on south side vendors are feeling the competi tion mark reynolds the owner of udderly delicious an ice cream parlor located on 3rd street said he is frustrated with the university this feels as if lehigh is fighting against the south side and putting in more of what we already have reynolds acknowledged the need for the south side to undergo some form of revitaliza tion but doesn't feel that adding more of the same is the way to solve the problem according to the morning call tony hanna bethlehem's director of community and eco farrington addresses anti-semitism by nora linscheid news editor anti-semitic symbols and slogans were discovered last week in two residence halls and one fraternity president gregory farrington said in a campus-wide e-mail vice president of university relations brad drexler said the occurrences are still being investigated and details of the symbols and slogans are not being released at this time the university police have not identified a culprit(s drexler said if a lehigh student were responsible for the symbols and words related to this situa tion the action would be deemed a violation of the code of conduct and charges would be adjudicat ed through the university student judicial system farrington said he was proud that students reported the inci dences to campus police and in one case took
