the brown and white vol 109 no 35 all the lehigh news first volchko to leave after nearly 18 years by randi greenberg news writer associate dean of students jennifer f volchko will be leaving her position next tuesday to pursue other inter ests volchko who is still unsure what new career path she will take said her future endeavors will most definitely center around students and her ability to guide others i feel as if i'm 20 years old again and graduating from college volchko said i'm not exactly sure what type of job i want to pursue i need some time to seek out what it is that i want to do with my life volchko has served as associate dean of students for the past 17 and 1/2 years she is in charge of supervising all student activities such as the senate budget and outdoor adventure summer pro grams as well as the miniversity classes held every semester photo courtesy of the epitome in addition to overseeing these activities volchko also works one on-one with students involved in sexual harassment cases and dating violence and helps those in off-campus housing arrangements my job at lehigh has given me so much pleasure she said working in higher education has been a good experience i love interacting with students on a day-to-day basis volchko said she has enjoyed her years spent at lehigh you don't stay at a job for as long as i did if you're not enjoy ing it volchko said dean of students sharon basso who has worked with volchko for the past 13 years said she will miss her friend and col league but is excited for the possi bilities that volchko may pursue after nearly 18 years in her role there is little she hasn't done basso said jenny is ready for a new challenge and i admire her commitment and courage to follow her heart volchko said she will miss interacting with the lehigh com munity working at lehigh has been a wonderful opportunity for me volchko said it is an amazing feeling to be able to reach people and help them work through their problems heather goodwin 02 has worked with volchko on pro jects for student senate the gryphon society and new student orientation she has a lot of energy and is very committed to helping stu dents goodwin said she's such a unique person and she cannot easily be replaced before starting at lehigh volchko served as assistant direc tor of activities at marquette university in milwaukee wi from 1978 to 1984 because her family remained on the east coast it was difficult for volchko to live so far away the opening of associate dean at lehigh was a perfect opportunity for volchko to explore volchko said she hopes her next job will also involve counseling as well as guiding others i love to help people and watch them grow over time volchko said it is a great feeling when a former student calls you up on the telephone and tells you how much they appreciated all of your help volchko said she hopes to continue working in an envi ronment with students renovations to improve grace by brigitte zeitlin news writer renovations on grace hall will tentatively begin in the fall in order to make the facility more modern and more func tional for the sports that it accommodates the new layout will include additional seating to host more than 2,200 people the seating which will include retractable seats in the lower stands will be designed so that no spectator will obstruct another's view when the new stands are retracted they will reveal three full-sized multi-purpose courts for sports new skyboxes will also be constructed for yip seating and social events the remolded arena will have a selected place for radio and television outlets to accommodate the growing wrestling and volleyball teams plans to make larger restrooms to accommodate the increase of spectators are already underway larger storage facilities will also be constructed to hold and store the sports equip ment in addition there are plans b&w photo by autumn cruz for a stair tower which will directly connect the upstairs dave imre 05 and matt bresin 05 members of the fencing club practice in lower grace where renovations will occur new stands will allow for more seating better viewing treasurer speaks to business students by rudy kaplan special to the brown and white students and faculty crowded into rauch business center thursday to hear former u.s treasurer mary ellen withrow share stories of her experiences overseeing the production of the country's money her talk given to a standing room only crowd was part of a two-day campus visit during that time withrow met with stu dents and faculty visited classes met with lehigh administrators and toured the campus and bethlehem as die 40th u.s treasurer wiunow directed die operations of the u.s mint die bureau of engraving and printing and the savings bond marketing office widirow oversaw several impor tant projects during her tenure including the redesign of paper current die introduction of the sacagawea coin and the issuance of state quarters 1 really enjoyed every minute of being treasurer of die united states withrow said i had a wonderful job manufacturing money withrow was a strong pro ponent of changing the design of paper
