the brothers plans for new logo put on hold byjohnmisinco assistant news editor plans to implement the pro posed new university logo are now on hold after countless stu dents faculty and alumni voiced discontent with the new design in response to comments we received we are currently rethinking the proposed logo and trying to improve upon it brad drexler vice president of university relations said the most controversial aspect of the proposed design is the removal of the book and heart from the logo elements taken directly from the univer sity seal drexler explained that the items were removed to create a simpler design that could reproduce more easily in digital format and on mer chandise we looked at how to simplify it drexler said one way is to reduce the number of symbols he also said that if either the book or heart were left on the logo alone people might misin terpret the meaning for example the heart could be associated with love or romance and the book could symbolize that lehigh is primarily focused on textbook-based learning the heart and textbook alone would not be an appropri ate representation of lehigh he said in the new design a rounded shield replaces the pointed gothic-like one on the current logo the image of a rising sun remains on the shield the sun is truly a symbolic part of lehigh often used to rep resent power innovation and enlightenment drexler said but when drexler addressed the student senate last tuesday most were not convinced they call us the lehigh family how can you have the lehigh family without the heart sanket kapadia 04 said it the proposed logo doesn't give people viewing it enough credit melissa klein 04 said they should under stand that the heart doesn't stand for romance others feel the new logo looks too modern
