news writer and editor in chief the mountain hawks thrilled a crowd of 10,131 with a 27-24 overtime win against hofstra university saturday in the first playoff game at lehigh since 1980 hundreds of students stormed the field after brian kelley 03 kicked a 24-yard field goal during lehigh's over time possession the students attacked the south goalpost lit tered the field with toilet paper and mobbed the football team which was celebrating the first playoff victory in lehigh history the victory was a hard fought battle against a tough 9 2 hofstra team after trailing most of the game the hawks tied the score at 24 on a touch down from jermaine pugh 04 with just 19 seconds left we never seem to want to make anything easy on ourselves head coach pete lembo said but at the same time we never put our heads down luke ciannello 02 took over the quarterback role in the third quarter after inconsistent play from starter brant hall 02 ciannello stole the show passing for 92 yards on 14 plays we have never lost at goodman stadium and we didn't want to lose our last game ciannello said our heart shone through in the end the hawks next take on no 3 seed furman university saturday for the division i-aa quarterfinals to continue their quest for a perfect season and the championship they will have to do so however without star wide receiver josh snyder 02 snyder who last week was georgia southern game students storm the field and take down the goalpost in celebration of lehigh's victory over hofstra the mountain hawks came back to win 27-24 after being behind for most of the game 1965 lehigh graduate accused of murder by bevin milavsky contributing editor a nationwide manhunt for an alleged murderer screeched to a halt on friday when fugitive robert a durst a 1965 graduate of lehigh was arrested for steal ing a chicken salad sandwich a band-aid and a newspaper from the wegmans off of route 512 in bethlehem according to the new york times durst 58 is being held in an isolation cell in northampton county prison in easton the durst family owns a number of manhattan skyscrapers so it is unclear why durst felt the need to shoplift he also had 500 in his pocket at the time of the arrest further baffling police officials in texas are seeking to have durst extradited to galveston on charges that he beheaded and dismembered an elderly man morris black durst left galveston while out on 300,000 bail after an oct 9 arrest the nationwide hunt began on oct 16 when durst failed to arrive for a bond hearing in galveston police said durst has used various disguises including posing as a mute woman since fleeing galveston the galveston police were joined by fbi agents new york investigators and los angeles detectives in the search for durst investigators are striv ing to uncover when durst changed his appearance the fbi believes he posed as a trustee to speak at graduation by safiyajafari news writer karen l stuckey lehigh alumna and corporate trustee for the university has been selected to deliver the january com mencement address on jan 13 in stabler arena karen stuckey exemplifies lehigh's strength in preparing leaders for careers and life president farrington said stuckey who is a partner for pricewaterhousecoopers said she was honored when farrington called her earlier this month with the news this will be her first commencement address and she admit ted to being both nervous and excited while she is still working on her speech and the message she wants to leave with the graduates she is sure that it will reflect the times and how they've changed since the events of sept 11 these are probably some of the more difficult times that our graduates will be facing both economically and socially because of the uncertainty due to the things that have happened so i'll probably address them regarding that point she said she also said that although she wasn't sure if there should be a shift in priorities will
