the brown and white lehigh vol 109 no 10 friday october 5 2001 all the lehigh news first 1 crime attempts threaten safety by amy cohen nora ljnscheid news editor and assistant news editor two attempted robberies that appear to be isolated occur rences happened on and off the lehigh campus late sunday evening and early monday morning according to chief of police edward shupp both the lehigh police and the bethlehem police are inves tigating the crimes however no one has been apprehended as of yet shupp said the first incident involved a male suspect who approached two female stu dents on east morton street the suspect who demanded the students money and flashed a handgun fled the scene when someone else appeared no one was injured in the encounter and the robbery was unsuccessful the second incident which took place early monday morning involved a female student who was knocked to the ground in the centennial i parking lot located off of quad drive this second attempted robbery was also unsuccessful because the man fled the scene according to the victim of the incident on monday morning she returned from the library and parked her car around midnight the door to her sorority is located in the front but her parking permit was for the back in her hands she carried her books a compact disc player her keys and her wallet she heard a noise and turned around to find a man behind her seconds later the man put his arms around her and his hands over her mouth he pushed her to the ground and tried to get the items from her arms she said she tried to scream and fight him off but her screams were muffled since his hand was over her mouth the man then stood up and sprinted toward the nearby woods running through a hole in the fence that separates the parking lot and the woods the b&wphoto by autumn cruz the suspect of the monday morning robbery attempt ran into the woods next to the centennial i parking lot talk radio 5 writer to hold lecture by anthony brichta tracey lomrantz play to be staged in zoellner's diamond theater a week after bogosian speaks news writer and assistant news editor eric bogosian actor play wright and creator of mono logues and solo shows will be lecturing at zoellner arts center thursday in conjunction with the department of theater's performance of his play talk radio the lecture entitled making characters - my life in theater and film will be held from 8 p.m to 1 p.m it is free to the lehigh community but is also open to the public at a 5 charge the lecture which is the first in zoellner's new edge event series will give a glimpse into bogosian's career as both actor and author bogosian's play talk radio will also be performed by the department of theater oct 18 through oct 21 as well as oct 24 through oct 26 talk radio takes place in a radio station the night before the show is going to a national audi ence the play can be considered a combination of comedy and drama and offers a sarcastic look at the power of words talk radio director kashi johnson agreed that the play is an interesting mix of wit humor and social commentary and has a refreshing ly original script many ways eric bogosian was ahead of his time when he wrote in the 80s johnson said he confronts and the timely message that he conveys are all still pertinent and clearly matter ten years later joe lucia director of information resources and a fan of bogosian said bogosian's mix of comedy and drama is a result of his view of himself -
