evolution of learn ing a multiple cell animal with an endless nervous system came next the characteristic of this animal was that it responded in total to a stimulus where as in the next stage there is the development of localized adjustment by means of synapses or nerve endings following this stage came rote learning as shown in experiments with snails with the coming of the vertebrates trial and error learning appeared at this point professor ford presented motion pictures of experiments on rats in relation to their ability to get through a maze logical learning and finally reason ing are proposed by omicron delta kappa in its reform bill at a meet ing last monday evening the proposals that the uniform letter award the brown key club and the l club be established were carried arcadia voted that the phi club be abolished and that the interfraternity council the sophomore cabinet the cyanide club and lehigh union be retained in regard to this action r k serfass president of omicron del ta kappa stated that the intent of the senior honorary society was not to push the reforms through but to educate the student body as to campus problems in order that they would insist on the reforms through arcadia omicron delta kappa he said has no actual powers but could recommend only that unnne cessary societies and party politics which might give lehigh an unsav ory reputation be abolished cabinet not abolished after extensive discussion it was decided that arcadia was in favor of retaining the sophomore cabinet the reason given for this action was that freshman regulations ne cissitated a body to see that they were enforced as the mere recom mendation that freshmen observe certain rules was not deemed suffi cient to insure obedience william sachs president of ar cadia stated that the uniform letter bill was passed as the members felt that the consensus of the student body the men who have already received a major award and of the alumni was that it was the effort put forth for lehigh and not the box office attraction which should govern the award of letters the interfraternity council was retained because it deals with fra ternities alone through the coun cil the fraternities are already rep resented in arcadia the member ship requirements for arcadia how ever were enlarged upon arcadia resolved that membership shall con sist of the head of each living group one representative for every 30 non-living group men to be elected at the meeting of this group in the spring called by the president of arcadia the four class presi dents the editors-in-chief of publi cations the presidents of mustard and cheese and the combined mu sical clubs and a representative elected from and by the letter men in the university open meetings planned the arcadia meetings shall be open and given full publicity no proxies will be recognized and the roll call will be taken by names in stead of living groups standing committees ahall be organized to cover student activities in publi cations athletic control social ac tivities student clubs booster acti vities mtra-mural sports freshman welfare and elections a slate committee composed of two fraternity men one non-living group representative and one dor mitory representative shall be ap pointed by the president of arca dia to propose membership a man may only be the chairman of one committee or a member of two the president of arcadia shall be elect ed at the first meeting of the new body each year because the lehigh union gives the founder's day dance and be cause although the union has no specific duties it has served in im portant capacities during freshman orientation week it was not abol ished cyanide was preserved as a need was felt for a purely honorary jun ior society however a new so ciety the brown key club made up of assistant managers to assume cyanide's former duty of entertain ing visiting teams was approved phi club abolished the phi club was abolished as the members of arcadia thought that the beginning of the sophomore year was too early a time to award athletic honors the newly organ ized l club will to some extent take the place of the phi club the membership in this society will be automatic with the reception of a continued on page four lehigh will be represented by percy hughes head of the depart ment of philosophy and education at the american state consisted of a discus sion of several topics in order which professor ford considered the va rious stages in the evolution of learning simple chemical reaction the ability of the amoeba to adapt itself to its environment was the first step in the evolution of learn ing a multiple cell animal with an endless nervous system came next the characteristic of this animal was that it responded in total to a stimulus where as in the next stage there is the development of localized adjustment by means of synapses or nerve endings following this stage came rote learning as shown in experiments with snails with the coming of the vertebrates trial and error learning appeared at this point professor ford presented motion pictures of experiments on rats in relation to their ability to get through a maze logical learning and finally reason ing are the last two steps in the evolution prof tomlinson fort made the introductory address and announced the future meetings of the sigma xi adopted will be presented for faculty sanc tion after next meeting arcadia acted upon the resolu tions proposed by omicron delta kappa in its reform bill at a meet ing last monday evening the proposals that the uniform letter award the brown key club and the l club be established were carried arcadia voted that the phi club be abolished and that the interfraternity council the sophomore cabinet the cyanide club and lehigh union be retained in regard to this action r k serfass president of omicron del ta kappa stated that the intent of the senior honorary society was not to push the reforms through but to educate the student body as to campus problems in order that they would insist on the reforms through arcadia omicron delta kappa he said has no actual powers but could recommend only that unnne cessary societies and party politics which might give lehigh an unsav ory reputation be abolished cabinet not abolished after extensive discussion it was decided that arcadia was in favor of retaining the sophomore cabinet the reason given for this action was that freshman regulations ne cissitated a body to see that they were enforced as the mere recom mendation that freshmen observe certain rules was not deemed suffi cient to insure obedience william sachs president of ar cadia stated that the uniform letter bill was passed as the members felt that the consensus of the student body the men who have already received a major award and of the alumni was that it was the effort put forth for lehigh and not the box office attraction which should govern the award of letters the interfraternity council was retained because it deals with fra ternities alone through the coun cil the fraternities are already rep resented in arcadia the member ship requirements for arcadia how ever were enlarged upon arcadia resolved that membership shall con sist of the head of each living group one representative for every 30 non-living group men to be elected at the meeting of this group in the spring called by the president of arcadia the four class presi dents the editors-in-chief of publi cations the presidents of mustard and cheese and the combined mu sical clubs and a representative elected from and by the letter men in the university open meetings planned the arcadia meetings shall be open and given full publicity no proxies will be recognized and the roll call will be taken by names in stead of living groups standing committees ahall be organized to cover student activities in publi cations athletic control social ac tivities student clubs booster acti vities mtra-mural sports freshman welfare and elections a slate committee composed of two fraternity men one non-living group representative and one dor mitory representative shall be ap pointed by the president of arca dia to propose membership a man may only be the chairman of one committee or a member of two the president of arcadia shall be elect ed at the first meeting of the new body each year because the lehigh union gives the founder's day dance and be cause although the union has no specific duties it has served in im portant capacities during freshman orientation week it was not abol ished cyanide was preserved as a need was felt for a purely honorary jun ior society however a new so ciety the brown key club made up of assistant managers to assume cyanide's former duty of entertain ing visiting teams was approved phi club abolished the phi club was abolished as the members of arcadia thought that the beginning of the sophomore year was too early a time to award athletic honors the newly organ ized l club will to some extent take the place of the phi club the membership in this society will be automatic with the reception of a continued on page four lehigh
