protest pick your own orchestra that is the policy of the senior class as outlined yesterday by w e current 32 chairman of the senior ball committee no longer will lehigh students be able to complain of the choice of bands for they themselves will make the choice this is expected to quell the criticism which has heretofore been a regular part of spring and fall houseparties orchestras available this fall are listed in the ballot below the committee declares that the band re ceiving the greatest number of votes will be engaged unless they sign another contract during the few days in which the poll is in prog ress former union secretary charged with inade quacy of faith were spent by our men on the rifle and pistol range where many of them received badges for proficien cy with the service pistol and the rifle not all of the time was spent at camp in the pursuit of of knowl edge for the amusement of the ca dets was well provided for two bathing beaches on the chesapeake bay were within easy reach of the camp and a nine hole golf course and tennis courts were also avail able one whole day was given ov er to a field day and a complete series of athletic events were stag ed between the various companies including such affairs as the three legged race sack race and pack race a tug of war between two companies with a fire hose playing on the center of the rope ended the day company a which included a good representation from lehigh won for the day shortly after the beginning of camp the officers of the grounds gave a dance for the cadets this was followed by other dances given each week by the cadets them selves a few days before the end of camp the men were assembled and marched out on the parade grounds where commissions as second lieu tenants in the ordnance reserve were issued to those who had prov ed worthy lehigh ordinance students operate big aberdeen guns the ordnance unit of the lehigh r o t c sent 12 men to the aberdeen proving ground during the summer where they completed the six weeks army camp require ment of their course the aber deen proving grounds are equipped with the latest ordnance appliences for it is here that all the new guns and ammunitions are brought to determine their general suitability for the army service here also all of the ballistic work of the ar my is carried out and research is conducted for the developement of new defense instruments at nine o'clock each morning these students went with their re spective companies to the different parts of the grounds and received instruction in the use of all types of ordnance materials they learned to operate many experimental types of tanks and armored cars the men also made their own ballistic tests on all of the types of guns from the small arms such as rifles ma chine guns and the various service cannons up to and including the sixteen inch seacoast guns these are the largest guns used by the army and fires a projectile a ton and a quarter in weight a distance of 31 miles they calculated the data for these guns and fired them themselves under the supervision of the regular army officer in charge of that section of the grounds one and a half weeks of the camp glancy to speak before engineers lehigh to honor noted historian university enrollment this week indicates that the student body is approximately 35 less than during the second week of school last year the statistics which have not been completed will be available next tuesday enrollment in the freshman class is estimated to be 435 while the number of men in the other classes is thought to be spent their six weeks in train ing at fort george g meade maryland various improvements made at the camp this year consisting of new tent floors and a better equip ped mess hall made living condi promotion of interest of lehigh alumni everywhere in the meaning workings past accomplishments and future prospects of the lehigh alumni fund is the aim of the south mountaineer a quarterly is sued by the board of governors of the lehigh alumni council the first issue which appeared in august contains a letter from a r glancy chairman of the alumni council setting forth the plans for recording every gift or legacy to the university a list of contributions by classes during the year 1931 a comparison of the alumni fund year by year since 1871 and an account of the will of the late charles w macfarlane carothers cites business needs the four conditions which must be met by american people if they wish prosperity to return were cit ed wednesday by neil carothers head of the college of business ad ministration the speech was de livered at a dinner in allentown as a part of the fourteenth annual con vention of the pennsylvania district of the kiwanis club the four conditions which dr carothers gave as being necessary for recovery of normal conditions are the interest rate must be low ered prices of commodities must be lowered insolvent and expensive businesses must be eliminated and wages must be reduced david braun former secretary of the lehigh union has recently been ordained to the presbyterian minis try at syracuse n v by the syra cuse presbytery a minority of the ministerial members of the presbytery who call themselves conservatives caus ed a stir during the semi-annual meeting in an effort to block braun's ordination on the grounds of inadequacy of faith the trouble began when mr braun concluded his reading of a statement of faith several prom inent clergymen asked for more clearcut statements on his belief which to ministers are fundamen tals mr braun was quizzed par ticularly on his conception of the virgin birth of jesus christ un successful attempts were made to commit the candidate more definite ly on doctrines than stated in his papers the the graduate students history club and the international relations club dr greene will speak on the subject history and the time-spirit born in koke japan in 1870 dr greene was educated in the united at lehigh asserts is the highest which an american historian can receive dr green was educated at north western university where he receiv ed his a b degree in 1888 he spent the next three years at an open meeting of the engineers club of the lehigh val ley and the american society of steel treaters on pennsylvania state highways at 8 o'clock this evening in packard auditorium mr lewis was graduated from the law department of columbia university he was appointed post master at york pa by president roosevelt and held that office for eight years he served as auditor general from 1921 to 1925 and was elected state treasurer in 1924 he was appointed superintendent of highways by governor pinchot before his speech mr lewis will be entertained at a dinner in his honor given by the fell in be hing the band and marched down to the stadium to witness the final practice of the lehigh team before the p m c game boy hurt crashing stadium saturday 1,392 students were served during three-day period this fall dr raymond c bull director of the students health service aided by a special staff of ten doctors and a dentist and given more time by the elimination of the customary chapel exercises wednesday afternoon was able to give physical examinations to the record number of 1392 students dur ing the three days of registration the physical examinations given this year says doctor bull are more searching than ever before in order that he may discover and remedy minor physical defects be fore they become an obstacle to the student in his college career the eye examination this year for instance has been augmented by an additional test with the use of a po sitive lens for the student's eye to aid in determining even trifling weaknesses the records of the examinations are now being examined carefully by doctor bull and his staff and students who need corrective treat ment of any kind will be summoned to the dispensary for such treat ment an extra audiometer was each week by the cadets them selves a few days before the end of camp the men were assembled and marched out on the parade grounds where commissions as second lieu tenants in the ordnance reserve were issued to those who had prov ed worthy lehigh ordinance students operate big aberdeen guns the ordnance unit of the lehigh r o t c sent 12 men to the aberdeen proving ground during the summer where they completed the six weeks army camp require ment of their course the aber deen proving grounds are equipped with the latest ordnance appliences for it is here that all the new guns and ammunitions are brought to determine their general suitability for the army service here also all of the ballistic work of the ar my is carried out and research is conducted for the developement of new defense instruments at nine o'clock each morning these students went with their re spective companies to the different parts of the grounds and received instruction in the use of all types of ordnance materials they learned to operate many experimental types of tanks and armored cars the men also made their own ballistic tests on all of the types of guns from the small arms such as rifles ma chine guns and the various service cannons up to and including the sixteen inch seacoast guns these are the largest guns used by the army and fires a projectile a ton and a quarter in weight a distance of 31 miles they calculated the data for these guns and fired them themselves under the supervision of the regular army officer in charge of that section of the grounds one and a half weeks of the camp glancy to speak before engineers lehigh to honor noted historian university enrollment this week indicates that the student body is approximately 35 less than during the second week of school last year the statistics which have not been completed will be available next tuesday enrollment in the freshman class is estimated to be 435 while the number of men in the other classes is thought to be spent their six weeks in train ing at fort george g meade maryland various improvements made at the camp this year consisting of new tent floors and a better equip ped mess hall made living condi students acted in various capacities as offi cers and non-commissioned officers these being rotated daily so as to giv every student several opportun ities to have charge of other men and develop the habit of taking command the training consisted largely of combat problems and ex ercises in the field made more re alistic by simulating actual combat conditions as closely as possible while emphasis was placed on military training athletic events and contests were encouraged with much interest being displayed in swimming baseball boxing and wrestling lehigh made a good showing in all the events auditorium mr glan cy's talk how to succeed is spon sored by the industrial engineer ing society after graduating from lehigh in 1903 mr glancy spent 14 years in mining and general construction work since 1919 he has been asso ciated with the dv pont company and general motors corporation mr glancy is president of the oak land motor car company and of the glancy malleable corporation he is an macfarlane carothers cites business needs the four conditions which must be met by american people if they wish prosperity to return were cit ed wednesday by neil carothers head of the college of business ad ministration the speech was de livered at a dinner in allentown as a part of the fourteenth annual con vention of the pennsylvania district of the kiwanis club the four conditions which dr carothers gave as being necessary for recovery of normal conditions are the interest rate must be low ered prices of commodities must be lowered insolvent and expensive businesses must be eliminated and wages must be reduced david braun former secretary of the lehigh union has recently been ordained to the presbyterian minis try at syracuse n v by the syra cuse presbytery a minority of the ministerial members of the presbytery who call themselves conservatives caus ed a stir during the semi-annual meeting in an effort to block braun's ordination on the grounds of inadequacy of faith the trouble began when mr braun concluded his reading of a statement of faith several prom inent clergymen asked for more clearcut statements on his belief which to ministers are fundamen tals mr braun was quizzed par ticularly on his conception of the virgin birth of jesus christ un successful attempts were made to commit the candidate more definite ly on doctrines than stated in his papers the an open meeting of the engineers club of the lehigh val ley and the american society of steel treaters on pennsylvania state highways at 8 o'clock this evening in packard auditorium mr lewis was graduated from the law department of columbia university he was appointed post master at york pa by president roosevelt and held that office for eight years he served as auditor general from 1921 to 1925 and was elected state treasurer in 1924 he was appointed superintendent of highways by governor pinchot before his speech mr lewis will be entertained at a dinner in his honor given by the chapel exercises wednesday afternoon was able to give physical examinations to the record number of 1392 students dur ing the three days of registration the physical examinations given this year says doctor bull are more searching than ever before in order that he may discover and remedy minor physical defects be fore they become an obstacle to the student in his college career the eye examination this year for instance has been augmented by an additional test with the use of a po sitive lens for the student's eye to aid in determining even trifling weaknesses the records of the examinations are now being examined carefully by doctor bull and his staff and students who need corrective treat ment of any kind will be summoned to the dispensary for such treat ment an extra audiometer was
