the brown and white lehigh university's student newspaper founded in 1894 vol 115 no 38 friday march 28 2008 all the lehigh news first sophomore charged with extortion by maxine mccoy the fbi is investigating a lehigh sophomore on charges of extortion after he allegedly tried to black mail a female student with promiscuous photographs he found on her laptop according to the police affidavit ricardo alvayero 10 admitted to stealing two laptop computers from the victim's room in taylor residential college on jan 26 he also admitted to stealing undergarments from the room on monday march 24 alvayero was charged in district court with two counts each of theft burglary and receiving stolen property he also appeared before a u.s federal court mon day on charges of extortion alvayero was suspected in the theft after sarah wolfe 10 one of the victims received an e-mail about the stolen computer the e-mail was later traced to alvayero according to police documents according to federal court documents on sunday march 16 wolfe received an e-mail sent at 5:12 a.m from an e-mail address named sarawolfehaha@live com with the subject line stolen laptop wolfe said the sender of the e-mail requested she reply with nude photographs of herself he said in the e-mail he liked what he saw in the pictures on my computer wolfe said and that i had 24 hours to take nude pictures of myself post them on photobucket.com and send him the link or else he would post the things he found on my computer all over campus wolfe said he attached promiscuous photos of her to the e-mail to prove he had items from her computer she said the photos had been deleted from her computer so he must have found them in the hard drive upon receiving the e-mail wolfe went directly to lehigh police the officer said we can't really do anything un til library and technology services gets here to morrow wolfe said i asked if there was anyone else who could because at this point i only had 12 celebrating additional step in the cam paign to reduce abuse of greek pledges the hotline is for any one who has experienced or witnessed hazing said tim wilkinson director of frater nity and sorority affairs in an e-mail to residence life coordinators callers can provide infor mation anonymously or give specific details that will allow responders to act immediately the hotline connects to a voice mailbox at the cincinnati law firm of manley burke the firm oversees the ho tline forwards messages to appropriate fraternal organiza tions and notifies authorities who are required to know un der local state law the firm also publishes the fraternal law newsletter which identifies legal issues for fraternal organizations cover ing subjects such as alcohol abuse hazing and relation ships between universities and fraternities twenty greek organizations were involved in establishing the hotline john smeaton vice provost for student affairs said the ho tline offers a solution to hazing problems it's not an answer but it's certainly another tool that can be used to allow those who have been subjected to hazing to report that he said the information gets conveyed back to the organization and to the university and the or ganizations can also do what they can to try to prevent this problem wilkinson said the hotline will provide a place for stu dents to comfortably speak-out i think it always makes sense for people to have a place to go he said if they think something is taking place that conflicts with the values that fraternities and sororities base themselves on not every person knows where to go or is comfortable reporting some thing face-to-face this gives them another outlet the hotline is one step of many in a fight to end hazing which continues to occur with in greek organizations president of alpha chi omega sorority allie little stone 09 said although ru mors give a false impression on the frequency of hazing on the hill it remains an issue that needs to be
