the brown and white lehigh university's student newspaper founded in 1894 vol 115 no 7 tuesday september 25 2007 all the lehigh news first new id cards have three ads for merchants with gold plus by matt brichta the three advertisements placed on freshman and newly issued student id cards this year will not cost students any additional money will hlay debit card and id manager said the three adver tisements on the back of new student id cards have no effect on the rise in replacement card fees the logos on the back of the id cards and the replace ment fee for lost id cards are in no way related hlay said the fact that the timing of both occurred this summer is pure coincidence this year the price of the replacement cards have raised from 10 to 15 hlay said research shows lehigh is on the bottom end of replacement card fees compared to other universities hlay said the university will not profit from either the cost of the advertisements or the rise in price for replacement cards the replacement fee for lost id cards is a university budgetary matter used to partially offset the cost of cards printer rib bons and id operations this slight increase still lea ves us far below district judge andrea puppio thursday steven devlin who resigned from his position at lehigh for went his hearing in exchange for the delaware county prosecutors dropping several of the 19 counts originally brought against him the most serious charges still remain in effect said joseph bri elman assistant district attorney and chief prosecutor of the special victims unit prosecutors withdrew the mis demeanor charges and dropped the felony charges to one count each brielman said because devlin allegedly talked with two different detec tives he was charged with two counts of various felonies briel man dropped most of the charges to one count and withdrew three charges criminal use of a com puter and two counts of criminal attempt to corrupt minors devlin is still charged with one count of the following solicitation to commit statutory sexual assault solicitation to commit involun tary deviate sexual intercourse solicitation to commit aggravated indecent assault solicitation to commit rape attempted statutory sexual assault attempted invol untary deviate sexual intercourse attempted aggravated indecent assault and attempted rape the maximum penalty for each charge is 20 years in jail we wanted to narrow the issues that we're facing in the case in exchange for the waiving of the preliminary hearing brielman said devlin and his defense attor ney mary beth welch refused comment as they left the court in springfield brielman said it is too early to tell if the case will go to trial dev lin will serve under house arrest until his arraignment on oct 25 course content available through itunes by chris knight audio and video content for lehigh cours es is now available through itunes u a service offered by apple computer to higher educa tion institutions for posting rich-media content to the internet the service available through the itunes platform will allow students to download au dio and video from courses either immediate ly or by subscription anything over a year ago when professors began offering audio content through podcasts which deliver au dio content through a subscription podcasts however take extensive programming and maintenance from lts year for his english course american film the essentials gal lagher tests new technology for his position as a faculty fellow at lehigh lab a program at lehigh designed to advance faculty adoption parking problems for tenants off campus by allyson planders â– students say fasnacht property management oversells spots in lot on east fifth street students who live off-cam pus and rent parking spaces in a private lot said the lot is oversold and does not provide adequate space for parking andrew katz 09 who lives at 519 e fifth st says his house's parking lot usu ally contains about 12 cars when he thinks it should only hold nine a flat fee of 250 is charged per space the spaces owned by fas nacht property management are rented out to residents of east fifth street properties owned by fasnacht gerald fasnacht owns the company which cares for over 90 of the rental properties around campus katz said he has had many discussions with his landlord about the size of the parking spots which some say are too narrow according to katz fasnacht told the renters anyone in any of the rental properties could be given a spot in the lot the people renting the parking spaces do not have to live in one of the nearby fasnacht properties the parking lot is rented out on a first-come first-serve basis fasnacht and kimberly abreu the property manager of the company were unavail able for comment in an e-mail message abreu said it is too busy this time of year to ac commodate an interview dale kochard executive director for lehigh community and regional affairs kochard said in bethlehem only two parking spots are allotted for each house in general five people live in each off campus house so there would rarely be enough room for all the cars kochard said lehigh does see
