the brown and white lehigh university's student newspaper founded in 1894 vol 114 no 42 tuesday april 3 2007 all the lehigh news first hellogoodbye to headline sundaze show on april 21 by andrew daniels news writer power-pop band hellogoodbye will headline this year's sundaze festival in sayre field on april 21 the festival will open with the bands boys like girls the hush sound blue scholars and recent battle of the bands winner j-wok and the pedestrians hellogoodbye whose quirky keyboard-tinged music has helped them rise to the top 40 charts is currently promoting their 2006 al bum zombies aliens vampires dinosaurs released on drive-thru records the band which is from huntington beach calif has seen its profile escalate in the last few years because of heavy exposure on social networking web sites and mainstream media outlets such as mtv fuse and myspace.com colin mcleod 08 co-director of university productions music said he is thrilled to have the band per form at lehigh we tried to get a band on the rise for this year's sundaze - a band that hasn't hit their peak yet mcleod said photo courtesy of brian sheffield mcleod said this year's lineup is a distinct change from past years he cited the band's current rele vance in the music scene as a major difference most years we've had bands who have pretty much reached their prime play at sundaze such as less than jake and cake mcleod said however hellogoodbye is really blowing up right now and they're going to draw a big crowd boys like girls is a boston based pop-rock band also on the verge of this year's sundaze will open with the bands boys like girls the hush sound blue scholars and j-wok and the pedestrians these bands will be followed by headliner hellogoodbye pictured above at the festival police men rob student near leon's by gwen purdom assistant news editor a lehigh student was robbed at knife point near zoellner arts center on thursday at approxi mately 4:30 p.m police said the student andrew dealmagro 10 said he was heading north on fillmore street and had just reached leon's bar on fifth street when he heard people running up behind him before i had time to react he said in an e mail interview i was struck in the lower back by a punch as i stumbled forward i turned my head to look over my right shoulder i suddenly saw a knife coming at my face so i ducked my head as i turned and the knife slashed my forehead instead dealmagro received a small cut on his fore head which was treated at the scene police said dealmagro told police the men stole 46 and fled east on fifth street he described the suspects as two hispanic males of medium build between 5-feet 6 inches and 5-feet 8 inches one man was approximately 17 years old with short dark hair and a black bandanna over his forehead the sec ond suspect was approximately 15 to 17 years old with long dark greasy hair and was wearing a t-shirt with a picture of a puerto rican flag police said dealmagro said the robbery had an effect on him and that he was going to be more cautious the next time he headed into town i just never thought someone would pull a weapon on me dealmagro said in an e-mail especially when i walk around campus and off campus i feel the need to keep looking over my back to make sure i'm not being followed thursday's incident is under investigation by the bethlehem police department with the help of lehigh police dealmagro said he thought the po student senate proposes entrance sign by martina russial news writer members of student senate presented the proposal for a welcome sign on goodman campus to president alice gast last week this proposal first suggested when renovations for lehigh's roads started 15 years ago is being revisited by members of the senate and the lehigh community kristen stimola 09 chair of the committee for the proposal said the effort to erect the sign was abandoned during construction of the roads the sign was knocked off the budget when they were building the roads stimola said the construction team ran into a problem with the soil and had to bring in extra materials the funding for the sign went toward stabilizing the soil for the roads and was put on hold the sign would be erected on the goodman campus past the off-ramp for interstate 78 the welcome sign is to mark the official visitors entrance to lehigh's campus this is something that every school has said divya nayar 10 a member of the sign committee anytime you are routed in a certain way to get onto a campus there needs to be a welcome sign or a map there needs to be something that says you're on that campus nayar said a sign welcoming visitors to goodman campus would balance the architectural welcoming fea tures of the asa packer campus b&wphoto by bj shepard this welcome sign stands in front of the alumni building another is proposed for goodman campus see sundaze page 4 see robbery page 6 see sign page 5 lehigh students .^ men's lacrosse team check online experiment defeats lafayette for breaking with yoga s ends losing streak news page 9 page 20 bw.lehigh.edu
