76-77 recruiting activities show substantial increase by karen berry job recruiting activity for the 1976-1977 lademic year increased substantially ler the previous year in virtually every i aspect according to eugene seeloff ! ljirector of placement services the number of organizations in | herviewing on campus the number of i interviews taken and the number of | ltudents taking interviews were all i leater than in the 1975-1976 recruiting i lear seeloff said | the number of organizations in terviewing on campus increased 11 per | cent to a total of 278 the number of in 1 terviews taken totaled 7,588 an increase of 1 five per cent over the previous year the number of students taking on campus interviews reached an all-time high of 750 up eight per cent he noted from these impressive statistics come mixed results seeloff explained to § compare some of the statistics of the classes of 1976 and 1977 was difficult because the class of 1977 was larger than the previous class at graduation 41 per cent of the 911 * seniors of the class of 1977 had reported y employment or military service seeloff said this compares to 38 per cent in 1976 ~ and 37 per cent in 1975 three months later 147 per cent of the class reported em ployment or military service in august 1976 only 43 per cent of the class had made such reports as of june 30 1977 however a record number of students 234 still were looking for employment by august that number had fallen to 51 or five per cent of the class during this same time period however the number of students with other or unknown plans rose from 126 14 per cent of the class of 1977—t0 270 or 30 per cent last august only 158 graduates or 19 per cent were classified as having other or unknown plans besides the class of 1977 being a larger class seeloff explained the number of graduates in the national job market also concert ticket guarantee praised called ridiculous by sharan daniel c some social chairmen called it ie ridiculous n others said it is the only way n many opinions on the idea of guaran 11 teeing student activities council sac r concert ticket sales fell between these ie extremes to give social chairmen a share of m concert tickets to sell within their living in group is not feasible practical or realistic it's ridiculous delta upsilon social chairman ron newman 79 commented he said it is impossible to guarantee that far in advance that students will attend a concert living groups then would have to assume the cost of unsold tickets ac cording to dean of students william quay take-out student spins his plate for a second helping sunday afternoon as warren square cluster residents party in a welcome return of summer weather loggins mason to stage concert by michele macdonald musicians kenny loggins and dave mason have reached an agreement with the student activities council sac to perform in grace hall at 8 p.m thursday oct 27 according to gary hirschberg 78 sac concert chairman the sac has signed contracts with loggins and mason and will begin advertising for the show im mediately loggins is best known for his work with jim messina while together the duo produced such hits as your mamma don't dance danny's song and house at pooh corner mason a talented songwriter has appeared several times in the lehigh valley to enthusiastic audiences a special advance ticket sale for students only will be held sept 26-30 hirschberg said the first 1,700 tickets will be sold for 6.75 each the remaining 1,400 tickets will be sold for 7.50 the ticket sales will not be held in ac cordance with the guarantee rule suggested last semester by dean of students william quay quay advised the sac to guarantee in advance all concert ticket sales in order to avoid debts a 14,000 debt incurred on sac concerts over_.the past three years was cleared by the university over the summer hirschberg said the guarantee rule is impossible to work with and that tickets for loggins and mason should sell with no problems if the show sells out the sac would make a 1,200 profit hirschberg said however any profits must be placed in a reserve fund until the past concert debts have been met the debt is always in the back of your mind hirschberg said but if we can chip away at it 1,000 at a time by the time we resolve it the new arena will be in use and we will be able to attract bigger groups because we will have a bigger hall the sac was working with cedric kushner productions in attempting to arrange a concert in september hirsch berg said however negotiations for shows featuring the j geils band and todd rundgren fell through we decided we were not going any place with a promoter this show came up and we were very fortunate that our offer was accepted hirschberg said he noted the sac will continue to work with promoters but also will attempt to book shows on its own currently hirschberg said he is negotiating with two performers who are also nationally popular he is planning for three concerts this semester and three more next semester we won't extend ourselves though until we find out how ticket sales go on this show he said but vve want to work on shows that are going to be appealing we have faith in the student body directions—assistant placement director joan davis talks with a student in the placement office her expression is not too optimistic although the number of organizations recruiting on campus increased last year see median page 9 see guarantee page 9 sports staff there will be a mandatory meeting of all members of the brown and white sports staff on thursday at 7 p.m in uc 403 attendance will be taken inside forum debt p 4 gryphons 20th p 7 house security p 8 gridders stung p 12
