and the living rres ent by ed fleischer are you a plumber asked a menacing figure flourishing a pitch fork as a brown and whife re porter and his fair companion ap proached him • he intends to be one replied his companion before the reporter recovered his breath and with this exchange of words the brown and white representative crashed an other gate and scooped a feature for his paper saturday night while ctfuples swayed on the floor ab6ve to strains of sweet mel ody other couples swayed on the floor below to the tune of clinking steins and flowing streams of beer — real beer the ladies auxiliary master plumbers association knows how to throw a party and proved it to the reporter's satisfaction — although they didn't know a report er was present the affair was a masquerade ball and took place at the cetronian band hall which is located in the same building with the cetronian fire company near dorney park allentown and when firemen and plumbers get together in a festive spirit fires must wait and pipes leak to their heart's con tent many of the plumbers sat on the sidelines unable to dance for they had forgotten their pumps — an old plumbing custom others took ad vantage of the opportunity to guz zle beer while their wives were cavorting on the dance floor with the firemen but there was more to this party than dancing and drink ing there was plenty of food heaping dishes of tempting pork trays of roast beef slices of ber muda onions lowly hot dogs steaming rolls and what not ad mission cards were sold at two dol lars apiece the reporter learned from his companion who had sug gested going to the affair she be ing a plumber's daughter but that did not alter his appetite nor did his conscience smite him the manner in which food and beer dis appeared before him denoted the true lehigh spirit that had sent him there things became hazy after 2 a m and it no longer mattered to the re porter whether he was dancing with a girl or a married woman a plumber's wife of a fireman's wife that is it did not matter until an indignant husband pointed out the fact to him the manner in which he swung his right arms denoted him to be a plumber the reporter left in a hurry aft er that and when consciousness dawned upon him many hours lat er he learned to his sorrow that he had forgotten to escort home the girl wot brurig him many substitutes used a sweeping hard-hunning later al-passing university of pennsylva nia football squad overcame the brown and white team saturday at franklin field by score of 40-0 some 25,000 shivering spectators sat huddled together in the huge stadium and witnessed the defeat of the bethlehem eleven the rout which commenced late in the first quarter continued up to the last minute the perm gridders scoring a total of six touchdowns lud wray's charges registered at least one touchdown in every per iod ware makes good kick only for the first few minutes of the game did lehigh appear to have a chance aided by the terri fic blast sweeping behind his back allen ware got off a beautiful kick which drove perm back within the shadows of their own goal line this was the only time during the massacre that perm really appeared to be at a disadvantage and from the waning moments of the first period to the final whistle the outcome of the game was never in question it was only a matter as to what heights the perm score would mount just once after those heartening moments in the first quarter when it seemed as though the brown and white might duplicate last year's moral victory did lehigh penetrate sacred perm territory this occured late in the fourth quarter when ted blood snared gormley's long pass to register le high's only earned first down of the entire day advance ball 431 yards detailed statistics even more than show the superiority of the quakers over the lehigh squad the red and blue advanced the ball 431 yards by rushing earned 21 of 23 accredited first downs and completed four of nine forward passes for a profit of 98 yards after the opening kick-off le high managed to keep the quakers well back in their own territory by virtue of ware's great kicking but this superiority over the red and blue was short-lived with on ly a couple of minutes of the open ing canto left perm opened its first successful drive of the day starting from their own 32-yard line the quakers dashed off 68 yards for the opening score the longest run in this march was a 22 yard sprint by captain dick gentle this dash placed the ball on lehigh's 21 yard line here lehigh rallied and held gentle masters and com pany without gain for three straight downs but on the fourth down gentle tossed a neat pass to walt er masters who was tackled as he fell over the^ast wide stripe changes backfield immediately following this as tonishing score wray sent in a complete new backfield and several other substitutions coach tate sent in a complete new line at this time the second quarter was only a few minutes old when the quakers with their new backfield of mung er graupner perina and ford op ened a second 60 yard drive which resulted in another touchdown ford plunging over from the one yard line after graupner had made a spectacular 20 yard run on a lat eral pass perm's third touchdown came on a spectacular long forward pass ford to riblett with the quakers on their own 47 yard line jerry ford faded back and heaved a 33 yard pass to the star end who rac ed along the sideline unmolested for a score wray uses third team the second half opened with both coaches using second and third string players wray used his complete third team while tate replaced many of his battered and injured varsity men with fresh men reed took ware's place and sin dell was in nora's place in the backfield while haas hall kug ler twiggar stutz zakorka and platsky made up the line a blocked kick led to the fourth score and a continuance of the rout of the brown and white tanseer recovered gormley's blocked kick on the 21 yard line behind perfect sweeping interference smith circled left end for the fourth touchdown after a series of lateral passes had advanced the ball once again deep into lehigh territory to start the fourth quarter spike collis found a wide gap in the brown and white line and raced madly down along the side line side stepping the safety man for the fifth score but the final touchdown of the even half dozen was one of the people do not usually shout with glee at a funeral but this unusual thing happened last friday evening when old man business depres sion was sent to davey jones lock er off the hill to hill bridge into the cold black waters of the le high river along with him to his watery grave went his wife dame pessimism their daughter miss fortune and the princeton will speak on the dead past and the living rres ent by ed fleischer are you a plumber asked a menacing figure flourishing a pitch fork as a brown and whife re porter and his fair companion ap proached him • he intends to be one replied his companion before the reporter recovered his breath and with this exchange of words the brown and white representative crashed an other gate and scooped a feature for his paper saturday night while ctfuples swayed on the floor ab6ve to strains of sweet mel ody other couples swayed on the floor below to the tune of clinking steins and flowing streams of beer — real beer the ladies auxiliary master plumbers association knows how to throw a party and proved it to the reporter's satisfaction — although they didn't know a report er was present the affair was a masquerade ball and took place at the cetronian band hall which is located in the same building with the cetronian fire company near dorney park allentown and when firemen and plumbers get together in a festive spirit fires must wait and pipes leak to their heart's con tent many of the plumbers sat on the sidelines unable to dance for they had forgotten their pumps — an old plumbing custom others took ad vantage of the opportunity to guz zle beer while their wives were cavorting on the dance floor with the firemen but there was more to this party than dancing and drink ing there was plenty of food heaping dishes of tempting pork trays of roast beef slices of ber muda onions lowly hot dogs steaming rolls and what not ad mission cards were sold at two dol lars apiece the reporter learned from his companion who had sug gested going to the affair she be ing a plumber's daughter but that did not alter his appetite nor did his conscience smite him the manner in which food and beer dis appeared before him denoted the true lehigh spirit that had sent him there things became hazy after 2 a m and it no longer mattered to the re porter whether he was dancing with a girl or a married woman a plumber's wife of a fireman's wife that is it did not matter until an indignant husband pointed out the fact to him the manner in which he swung his right arms denoted him to be a plumber the reporter left in a hurry aft er that and when consciousness dawned upon him many hours lat er he learned to his sorrow that he had forgotten to escort home the girl wot brurig him many substitutes used a sweeping hard-hunning later al-passing university of pennsylva nia football squad overcame the brown and white team saturday at franklin field by score of 40-0 some 25,000 shivering spectators sat huddled together in the huge stadium and witnessed the defeat of the bethlehem eleven the rout which commenced late in the first quarter continued up to the last minute the perm gridders scoring a total of six touchdowns lud wray's charges registered at least one touchdown in every per iod ware makes good kick only for the first few minutes of the game did lehigh appear to have a chance aided by the terri fic blast sweeping behind his back allen ware got off a beautiful kick which drove perm back within the shadows of their own goal line this was the only time during the massacre that perm really appeared to be at a disadvantage and from the waning moments of the first period to the final whistle the outcome of the game was never in question it was only a matter as to what heights the perm score would mount just once after those heartening moments in the first quarter when it seemed as though the brown and white might duplicate last year's moral victory did lehigh penetrate sacred perm territory this occured late in the fourth quarter when ted blood snared gormley's long pass to register le high's only earned first down of the entire day advance ball 431 yards detailed statistics even more than show the superiority of the quakers over the lehigh squad the red and blue advanced the ball 431 yards by rushing earned 21 of 23 accredited first downs and completed four of nine forward passes for a profit of 98 yards after the opening kick-off le high managed to keep the quakers well back in their own territory by virtue of ware's great kicking but this superiority over the red and blue was short-lived with on ly a couple of minutes of the open ing canto left perm opened its first successful drive of the day starting from their own 32-yard line the quakers dashed off 68 yards for the opening score the longest run in this march was a 22 yard sprint by captain dick gentle this dash placed the ball on lehigh's 21 yard line here lehigh rallied and held gentle masters and com pany without gain for three straight downs but on the fourth down gentle tossed a neat pass to walt er masters who was tackled as he fell over the^ast wide stripe changes backfield immediately following this as tonishing score wray sent in a complete new backfield and several other substitutions coach tate sent in a complete new line at this time the second quarter was only a few minutes old when the quakers with their new backfield of mung er graupner perina and ford op ened a second 60 yard drive which resulted in another touchdown ford plunging over from the one yard line after graupner had made a spectacular 20 yard run on a lat eral pass perm's third touchdown came on a spectacular long forward pass ford to riblett with the quakers on their own 47 yard line jerry ford faded back and heaved a 33 yard pass to the star end who rac ed along the sideline unmolested for a score wray uses third team the second half opened with both coaches using second and third string players wray used his complete third team while tate replaced many of his battered and injured varsity men with fresh men reed took ware's place and sin dell was in nora's place in the backfield while haas hall kug ler twiggar stutz zakorka and platsky made up the line a blocked kick led to the fourth score and a continuance of the rout of the brown and white tanseer recovered gormley's blocked kick on the 21 yard line behind perfect sweeping interference smith circled left end for the fourth touchdown after a series of lateral passes had advanced the ball once again deep into lehigh territory to start the fourth quarter spike collis found a wide gap in the brown and white line and raced madly down along the side line side stepping the safety man for the
