separately asked dr charles a seidle for a report on the status of his proposed com mission to study the timing of selection of freshman residence halls counselors and post-pledging activities when seidle vice president for administration accepted the new condensed rushing-contacting plan last may he said a student-faculty commission to iron out operating details and submit a report to the student-life committee would be set up this fall letters to seidle from both groups are expected to reach the vice president's office today arcadia wednesday authorized president r steven schiavo 63 to draft the letter to seidle the decision to send the letter was made during a closed portion of the meeting there was no vote on the matter schiavo later told the brown and white that it was the general concensus of arcadia that the situation warranted a letter last night the inter-fraternity council executive committee drafted a letter inquiring into the status of the commission raymond hodil 63 ifc president said that ifc representatives agreed to send the letter without a formal vote at their meeting monday both hodil and schiavo declined to discuss the nature of the re spective letters in greater detail during the regular meeting wednesday arcadia unanimously voted to set up a sub-committee to consider proposed expansion and revision of student government named to the committee were duncan payne 63 carl l mcconnell 64 alan eckroh 64 and g sander davis 64 davis is chairman of the arcadia revisions committee the new arcadia committee will invite a sub-committee from the student life committee to join in the study davis said the slc was concerned with arcadia problems and asked to be included in the study he said he discussed the joint investigation with slc repre sentatives last week a motion was introduced that duncan payne be named campus co ordinator of student discount tours sponsored by the national student association the job would involve a commission for payne on any tours sold on campus however following objection by schiavo a new motion that the job be handled with the commission going into the arcadia treasury early chest funds low drive extended 3 days the six-day annual campus chest campaign — scheduled to end tomorrow — has been extended until wednesday night carl l mcconnell said last night the funds col lected as of wednesday totaled 641.45 he pre dicted that only 3,000 could be collected by satur day the goal of this year's campaign is 5,000 fraternity and residence hall students are being contacted by living group agents mcconnell said town students wishing to contribute can deposit their money in envelopes available at the student activities desk in the university center last year the campus chest raised approxi mately 1750 in the drive and 800 in the ugly man contest mcconnell said brochures on the campus chest program are available to all students at the student activities desk a campus chest representative will be in the student activities room 405 in the university center from 4 to 5 p.m daily until the end of the drive the ten living groups with the highest per capita contribution to campus chest will receive priority in seating at the lehigh-lafayette game because the preferred seats must be distributed by sun day the winners will be deter mined on the basis of money turned in by saturday as origin ally planned campus chest officials have suggested a minimum contribu tion of 2.00 per student proceeds from the campaign will be distributed among lehigh stu dent projects the world univer sity service united negro fund souzay performs in concert tonite h gerard souzay internationally-renowned french baritone will present a concert at 8:15 p.m tonight in grace hall souzay who has promised a three-point program of academic standards for the university division of the middle atlantic conference lehigh is a member of the mac univegrsity division he spoke at a joint meeting of the touchdown clubs of wilmington and newark held at the exec utive club wilmington del he said the univer sity wants to participate in a league either a re vised mac or a new league—that regulates uniform academic and admission standards for all students leckonby's proposed three-point program calls for 1 uniform admission standards including the college entrance examination board tests 2 equalized scholarship grants based only on a student's economic need as recommended by the national college scholarship service 3 parallel requirements of academic eligibility for all students who participate in athletics at mem ber institutions leckonby first indicated interest in regulating academic and admission standards in a speech oct 22 at the weekly meeting of the football writers of new york held in toots shor's restaurant in new york city the former head football coach said last night lehigh university enjoys its association with sev eral members of the mac and wishes to continue these relationships if the conference and its mem bers feel that certain revisions can be accomplished particularly along academic lines and lehigh is willing to assist in this reorganization which could include the present members or new teams in the university division he said lehigh's major concern in proposing a reorganization of the mac or in considering en trance into a new league is for its undergraduates enrolled at the university a league that is academ ically balanced is bound to be equal in other ways and eliminates an unfairness to participating stu dents who must spend most of their time at studies this type of league can also encourage more enthusiasm on the part of any institution's total stu dent faculty and alumni bodies for whom intercol legiate athletics should be
