this is the theme of the official semi-annual lost weekend and as always great quantities of firewater will be consumed in the company of the fair maidens savage and other wise wise men have predicted that even allowing for the valiant efforts of the lcb the state store trading post will do a hair-raising amount of business a fact sure to distress most of our braves espec ially during a sunday scalp con templation with the arrival of dates at 4 p.m today there is a legitimate excuse fr the beginning of this collegiate festival of bacchus of course there have been scout ing expeditions to the local water ing places or so the medicine men say but these simply strengthen the warriors for the ordeal ahead the cooking fires in the wig wams of the sayre park reserva tion will burn bright when the girls arrive lightening the cock tail hour which precedes the feasts this is the first test of manliness as the sun sets the couples drift toward grace hall where stan kenton downstairs and johnny and the hurricanes upstairs from 9 p.m until 1 a.m will provide the inspiration for the non-rain dances of the twisting gyrating braves and maids it's back to the long house after the dance or as early as 12 mid night for the couples all ready to settle down to a long night's partying this year there are sev eral new rules one of which is that all persons who are attending parties and are of its graduate program presi || dent harvey a neville told new faculty members wednesday night in the university center he was speaking at the president's dinner for new faculty which dr glenn christensen master of ceremonies for the eve : ning described as another neville first other speakers were dr charles a seidle vice president for administration and paul j franz vice president for development || and public relations || dr neville explained that the purpose of his talk was to give the new faculty members an image of the university espec amendment introduced to augment arcadia more represenfat/on urged an amendment which would increase the num ber of arcadia representatives from 15 to 71 was in troduced at the arcadia meeting wednesday night the change suggested by the arcadia revision committee is that arcadia's membership be appor tioned by living group population with as nearly as possible one representative from every living group adequate representation would be given to under graduates living outside of the various living groups the maximum number of representatives can not exceed 75 the amendment proposed by g sander davis 64 chairman of the revision committee was tabled in order to give the representatives time to study the amendment give the student population a chance to form an opinion and to have it in the secretary's minutes so that it would be a proposed motion rather than a hypothetical one the revision committee felt that the two prob lems arcadia faces are the lack of sufficient power to accomplish the aims set forth in the arcadia constitution and indifference of the student body the increased representation would be needed davis stated to handle all the new powers arcadia would want since the associates would be abol ished applications to arcadia associates will be ac cepted until monday gerald feffer 64 president of the associates the present executive committee and alan eckbreth 64 arcadia vice president will choose a slate to be voted on by arcadia three students were selected to attend confer ences j dennis berrean 63 and kenneth a lill 64 to attend the latin american affairs confer ence at the university of pennsylvania and duncan m payne 63 to attend the governors university people to people conference at harrisburg the travel committee is preparing a two-col ored pamphlet which will be sent out during the first two weeks in november to students parents and faculty in the five area colleges to publicize the european flight program lafayette to honor neville rathbone harvey a neville president of the university and monroe j rathbone president of standard oil company of new jersey and chairman of the university board of trustees will be awarded hon orary degrees at a pounder's day convocation at lafayette college on friday october 26 rathbone is also scheduled to deliver the founder's day address at 4 p.m in colton chapel three other men are scheduled to receive honorary degrees dr edward c welsh a 1930 lafay ette alumnus presently the execu tive secretary of the national aeronautics and space council dr harold f grim a 1912 alumn us of lafayette and a professor emeritus of biology at lincoln university and rev bryant m kirkland pastor of the fifth ave nue presbyterian church in new york city neville earned an a.b degree at r andolph-macon college in 1918 and m.a and ph.d degrees at princeton university where he was an assistant in chemistry from 1918 to 1921 an authority in the field of cat alysis and colloid chemistry he taugh chemistry at the university of illinois from 1921 to 1927 before joining the lehigh faculty in 1938 he was named head of the department of chemistry and chemical engineering and in 1949 was named dean of the graduate school in 1956 neville was selected as vice president and pro vost of the university while still serving as director of the univer sity's institute of research a po sition he held since 1945 in 1961 neville was named pres schuman to sketch notions neuroses frederick l schuman will speak on the neuroses of the nations at 4 p.m tuesday in the osbourne room of the university center a woodrow wilson professor of government at williams college and authority on current world affairs schuman will be the next speak er in the cooperative lecture series he will be sponsored by the international relations department and the department of government as well as the cooperative lecture series committe co-sponsor will be the foreign policy association of the lehigh valley author broadcaster and journalist as well as teacher schuman is a native of chicago and has traveled and studied in england france germany italy austria the balkans greece turkey and russia he has taught at the university of chicago of which he is a graduate and at harvard cornell columbia universities and the university of california during world war 11 the speaker was principal political analyst of the foreign broadcast information service of the federal communi international recognition — dr lambert tall and fio rello estuar check results of a stub column test in fritz lab the test procedure developed under dr tali's direction has heen
