themselves dur ing the rushing period so that both the rushees and houses will not make a mistake in their selections with this advice from george mac lean 56 ifc president the new rushing season began this noon the major changes made in the rushing policy this year centers around no sunday rushing rule and the no alcoholic beverages rule a change from past years there will be no contacting nor rushing from 10 a.m sunday until mid ■night this chance gives a need ed rest to both the fraternity men and their rushees commenting on the effect that the no-drinking rushing parties will have on the rushing season as a whole mac lean said that he would be interested in the effect that it would have the two week rushing period be gins today and will end on friday feb 24 during this period freshmen will visit the various fraternities for lunch and dinner meals but may not stay after 8 p.m on weekdays sat urday night parties are of course an exception to the 8 p.m rule the freshman may not visit the same fraternity for more than a 24 hour period and con sequently must wait 30 hours before returning to the house during the coming fortnight time allowed for the contacting of fresh men in their residence halls will be extended one hour to 11 p.m for fraternity representatives in previous years approximately 20 bids had been issued as an aver age for the 30 fraternities bringing approximately 300 new members to the fraternity system twenty bids are originally alloted to each house by ifc and any over that number issued by a house must first be ap plied for from ifc if less than 20 bids are given they also must be re turned to the council the bids themselves will be hand ed out on friday feb 24 in drown arcadia plans 2,819 budget formulation of its budget for the forthcoming year and the passing of a motion to accept recommended committee appointments constituted the major action at the initial meet ing of the 10th arcadia following the dean's dinner in honor of past and present ar cadians wednesday evening ar cadia approved a 2,819 budget for 1956-57 the proposed bud get will be submitted to the student club finance commit tee for approval action taken by the previous ar cadia was also brought up at the two-hour meeting the ninth arca dia had passed a motion to send 25 to the firemen's welfare fund in collins elected arcadia prexy william a collins 57 newly elected arcadia president was in stalled in office wednesday after noon during ceremonies held in drown hall other officers installed were alfred rogers jr 58 vice president arthur marcantonio 57 treasurer and william nor lander 58 secretary the officers assumed their duties at the initial meeting of the 10th ar cadia wednesday evening truck crushes workman a 24-ton concrete truck crashed down on two workers constructing the foundation for the new phi sig ma kappa house in sayre park kill ing one and injuring the other when the surrounding embankment gave way the accident happened jan 31 joseph guadagino easton was crushed to death beneath the truck and the wooden forms he had been erecting forrest alte mose pocono pines was trapped under the truck for an hour be fore he was freed and rushed to st luke's hospital altemose right hand was mangled so bad ly that the fourth and fifth fingers had to be amputated theodore pitts driver of the huge vehicle said he heard the ground cracking as he stood next to the truck and shouted to the workers to watch out as he tried to clamber into the cab the truck lurched and threw him to the ground another worker roy green managed to es recently returned from an extensive tour of europe and the near east during which they be came the first professional two piano team to tour the holy land so popular was their success in israel that they gave 10 concerts in 15 days although they had expected to give only six the world premiere of david and goliathe babin's new suite for two pianos and nar rator was presented in a crowded tel aviv concert hall on this tour the popular pianists return to the british isles each season is always the signal for a bril liant series of recitals on their last tour while in scotland they were engaged for a private concert in the ancient castle of lord glentanar in aboyne aberdeenshire to celebrate the birthday of their host's daughter aboyne is in the sir walter scott country and was a fitting to the ninth arcadia chaplain fuess le j walter maxwell and charles j moravec as well as both groups of arcadians following the dinner the follow ing points of discussion were brought up the apparent cancella tion of music festival the status of houseparty and arcadia-administra tion relations in general when asked about music festival dean congdon said he had received a letter from prof william a schempf cancelling further plans for the annual spring festival dean hayes thereupon called a meeting of festival representatives to discuss the problems involved including the scope of the music
