lehigh university bro wn and white volume 67—number 10 tuesday october 25 1955 university 6-0331 jam session planned for h p of lookout sunday afternoon of houssparty will be the occasion for an experi ment never before tried at a house party weekend the experiment will try to answer the question of wheth er lehigh students can successfully participate in a mass outdoor social event fifteen of the fraternities are acting as a test group and have p u t p the money to sponsor a dixieland band which will play at the lookout that afternoon fnom 2 to 9 '. the saht that th,ey would like to extend an'lnvitation to the entire university % attend but cer tain obstacles prevented them from doii>g so r /••■v . under itg rushfng rules the at tendance of freshmen at the affair would be a violation,since it is a fra ternity function after much discus sion by the sponsoring group it was decided to limit attendance to those fraternities that have taken the re sponsibility of initiating the test the success of the concert will probably assure its inclusion as a hp function in the years to come it will definitely fill the need for a major function on the last afternoon of the hp week end houses taking part in the concert are alpha chi rho beta theta phi chi phi delta phi delta upsilon k«vpa alpha kappa sigma lamb da chi alpha phi delta theta phi gamma delta phi sigma kappa sigma alpha mv sigma phi epsi lon theta delta chi and theta kappa phi letters were sent out last week by wayne d parker chairman of the queen committee for fall hp to the presidents of the . various ... living groups explaining the procedure for choosing the hp queen at the dance friday night each group will choose a pre liminary candidate who must be in room 167 at grace hall at 10:30 p.m with her escort and an information card properly filled out the cards were sent along with the letters and in quiries as to the name of the contestant her escort's name explains origin of 1,100 figure for eating plan by john mimnaugh there is no magic in the 1.100 fig.ure stated university treasurer flmer w glick in explaining how this figure was arrived at as the ne cessary number of students to be re quired to eat in the new university center the figure gmv from a num ber of conferences and meetings on the subject stated the treasurer this being a new venture for lehigh many areas are going to be this is the first time in the history of the 79-year-old annual that such an award has been copped by the lehigh yearbook the epitome's editor f bruce waechter 56 received word friday of the honor from the university of minnesota's prof fred l kildow president of acp who is known in collegiate journalistic circles as mr collegiate publication of the 257 college and university | yearbooks which competed in the ! 35th acp contest only 11 including the 1955 epitome were tapped for this highest honor the lehigh year book was tops in its class — univer sities with enrollments ranging from | 2,001 to 4,000 students seven of the 111 all-american awards were gain ed by colleges with more than 4,000 enrollment the 55 epitome was rated by prof kildow who listed the certain remarks in the guide book as he pa^setf final judg ment on each division of the book in the layout division under dis play kildow remarked the book was generally well-planned and ex celent this division received 200
