'• ■-- •'-■■■' __;____ i____-l un 6-0331 hi girls when the lights went cut at lehigh the student body turned from their studies to more enjoyable pastimes hence a mass mi gration to moravian college for women where they were greeted by an irate dean frosh visit mo in blackout tour a large scale study break on campus tuesday night resulted when all lights and power went out about 9:30 p.m the power cutoff resulted when a car snapped off a utility pole in the iron hill section east of bethlehem all power south of 4th st was cut off for over an hour a few minutes after the lights went out crowds of students began marching down campus singing as they went to the rhythm of drums the first group went across the new st bridge blocking traffic while crossing proceeding west on church st the group went to moravian college where they serenaded the girls at the rear entrance most were fresh men out front crowds began to form on the sidewalk next to central moravian church across the street from the main en trance to moravian college two police cars arrived then three and by the time the students were disbursed four cars inside the college wlrn staff members were tape recording inter views with the girls asking them if they were enjoying the attention at one point a wlrn announcer asked a police officer if he would like to make a comment and he re plied i have nothing to say the announcer then retorted i see what you mean sir there was some question as to whether the station's members dean deplores campus raids the potential seriousness of last tuesday evening's march on the women's dormitory at moravian col lege was brought to the attention of students the following day in a let ter by dean wray h congdon in re-stating the university's position on such matters dean congdon warned that anyone caught at any time in any type of raid on another campus will be summarily suspended from the university fortunately for several scores of lehigh students stated the dean the bethlehem police proved to be your friends when they dissuaded you on tuesday night to call off your raid congdon also mentioned the harm done to student-town relations by such actions noting the point of breaking and entering a women's residence and the disturbances made in bethlehem's streets at such a late hour founder's day to make alumni of 100 students president martin d whitaker will confer approximately 100 baccalau reate and master's degrees at the 7th founder's day exercises to be held in packer church at 2:30 sun day afternoon , forty advanced students will receive master's degrees and 60 seniors who finished their work this summer will receive diplo mas dr ploward a rusk chairman of the department of physical medi cine and rehabilitation of new york university's bellevue medical cen ter will deliver the commencement address after the exercises are completed the recessional will proceed from the church to the flagpole for the tradi tional flagpole ceremonies to be executed by rotc cadets marking lehigh's 90th anni carlos romulo will lecture at scl presentation today gen carlos p romulo philippine i ambassador to the united states and former president of the un general assembly wilj deliver the opening lecture in the 20th annual student concert-lecture series tonight at 8 p.m in grace hall the lecture today's world — tomorrow's goal will be open admission free to all parents ac companying their sons under graduates will be admitted free with id cards additional tic kets can be purchased lor 1 with a list of 1 r major positions and'eight awards to his credit the übiquitous filipino has spent his life knocking the props from under kip ling's oh east is east and west is west and never the twain shall meet in an indefagible effort to decorations for the dance will be health center will pose for public tomorrow by art roth i i lehigh's new half-million dollar student health center will officially open its doors for public inspection from 10:30 a.m to 1 p.m tomorrow the opening marks the culmi nation of a building program initiated when an anonymous donor offered 250,006 for anew health center if the amount would be met by alumni par ents and friends after a year long campaign the fund was completed and construction got underway approximately the same staff will operate the center except for the addition of a full-time assistant phy sician according to vice-president e kenneth smiley the policy of the center will remain strictly ambula tory and diagnostic with no infirm ary or overnight service dr smiley explained that if the need is judged to be sufficient such service may be added in the future he did not speculate as to when this might come about but explained that it was out of the question at present because it would necessitate adding a staff which would vastly increase the expense of operation blue cross and blue shield hospitalization plans pretty well take care of the students who require hospital care — if lehigh were to take over this function it would just incur added expense said the vice president when asked whether cases of ill nees that were not severe but did require rest — such as a mild case of influenza — would be cared for stadium seats—pictured above is the diagram of the taylor field football stadium showing the various bleacher sections and parking rea purchased at the door for 1 for the benefit of the saturday morning visitors the new health center will be open for inspection from 10:30 a.m to 1 p.m parents are also invited to visit the special art exhibit in the main lobby of the alumni memorial building on sat urday and sunday afternoon from 2 to 5 luncheon for the students and their parents begins at 11 a.m and runs till 12:30 on the lower floor of grace hall all are guests of the university at this function and it is suggested that those attending ar rive early wlbn the campus radio sta tion has extended an invitation to all parents to come and visit at the station from 12 on through the afternoon staff members on duty will explain to the guests many facts about this organiza tion located in the basement of drown hall kick-off time for the gridiron bat tle between the packers and buck nell is scheduled for 1:30 with the students and their parents seated in a special section cars will be parked on upper field upon presentation of a parking tic ket these tickets were given out at the same time as the football tickets after the game many living groups will hold open house dinner will be served to the parents in some fraternity houses dancing is the featured event of the evening as the charity ball swings out a 9 p.m on the upper floor of grace the music for the affair will be supplied by the col legians lehigh's own dance
