lehigh university brown and white vol 87 — no 37 bethlehem pa tuesday march 2 1976 215-866-0331 grapplers roar through easterns b8.w photo by danoff on top again mike lieberman is about to become the engineers fourth 1976 eiwa champion as he turns carmel morina of temple towards his back lieberman succeeded m pinning morina at 5:12 to repeat as eiwa 177-pound champion other win ners for the grapplers included bob sloand tihamer toth-fejel mike frick and don mccorkel three other engineers qualified for nationals nils deacon lance leonhardt and guy talarico in team scoring the grapplers coasted to victory tallying 152y 2 points 52 points more than syracuse and navy who tied for second ed pol proposal suggests cut in add period byruthhinz a proposal to shorten the add period from ten to five days for specifically ap proved courses was passed by the com mittee on education policy edpol the proposal was presented by brian brock way dean of the college of business and economics in order for a class to have the five-day limit an instructor would first have to secure approval from ed pol and then from the entire faculty brockway said the ten-day period is almost perfect for about 99 per cent of the courses however the five-day limitation would be mainly for three-hour classes that when missed usually place the student far behind the rest of the class he explained it would give everyone advance notice so students could make their decisions concerning course changes easily brockway said the problem is probably not as great m the other two colleges where students can either catch up quicker or would not think of adding after a certain number of classes had been missed he said as a result strong support was not received from the other colleges brockway added the students certainly don't want to see the ten-day rule changed for it looks as if they're being imposed upon he said however he explained this solution is eight matmen qualify for upcoming nationals by fred haynes the engineer wrestling team rolled to its second consecutive eiwa championship saturday crowning five individual champions and qualifying eight for the national tournament m tucson march 11-13 bob sloand mike frick tihamer toth-fejel mike lieberman and don mccorkel all won eastern titles while nils deacon lance leonhardt and guy talarico placed m the top three for frick who won the fletcher b&w photo by sanders the 1976 eiwa champions distrust of allied cited as reason for unionization by karen grigsby and barbara raynoha many allied maintenance corp em ployes of the university cited distrust as a major reason for their recent unionization a brown and white survey taken last week of 15 allied workers showed the employes voted for unionizing by a 110-53 margin on feb 20 with 95 per cent of those eligible voting employes opposed to unionizing were concerned over union dues while those for unionizing expressed dissatisfaction with allied allied maintenance personnel and their recently elected teamsters repre sentatives will meet to bring up contract demands saturday march 6 according to union spokesman richard hontz employes who favored unionization said the transfer to allied was thrust upon them and therefore they distrust the company we had no say about being given to allied by the university we were just handed over that burned everybody up one maid said distrust was also expressed by those employes opposed to unionization one of the maids said she expected no benefits from unionization and felt the union's aim was to finance big executives to get big retirement funds taken off of the little people employes differed over the 10 per month union dues those against unioniz see matmen pg 8 see allied page 4 inside : smags security p 5 eiwa photos p 6 hoopsters edged p 8 see 5-day page 5
