campus have been overdramatized by the brown and white according to preston parr dean and vice president of student affairs reports of violence on campus m the paper do not necessarily mean that violence has increased — i do not think that there is as much violence as the stories m the brown and white might suggest parr said william quay dean of students and sharon drager assistant dean of students have responded m the proper procedure for dealing with campus violence parr said they have acted m constraints which i know of but which we cannot reveal to the newspapers he said eugene dax captain of police has also done an outstanding job parr added there is reason for concern but not alarm parr explained until the dean's office is able to get the kind of hard evidence that will permit an evaluation of these newspaper reports m terms of their content it will be hard to take disciplinary action m some of the incidents he said parr was unable to name a date as to when hard evidence will be uncovered in the meantime there will be a review of the number of police officers but no panic steps will be taken he said the brown and white is not responsible for the success the dean's office has had m apprehending attackers parr said prior to coming up with five suspects drager told the brown and white she had closed the case it has been suggested that a story m the brown and white exposing the attack incident prompted drager to reopen the case parr explained that although the case may have been closed that does not mean that information would not be ac cepted on the subject dean drager gained access to information that she did not have previously he said the question as to whether or not drager previously had the information has been a matter of controversy about four weeks ago drager denied that either herself or her assistant attilia lannarelli had received a phone call with information on the identity on one of the attackers later a jan 30 story m the brown and white exposed the incident and reported that drager had m fact received such a phone call after denying a second time that she received the phone call she called a brown and white reporter the same weather warms up here four students diligently survey the campus m front of packer chapel union's effect on university discounted the election of teamsters local 773 to represent maintenance employes will not affect university operations according to eric ottervik vice president for planning allied maintenance corporation em ployes voted last thursday to join the union by a 110-53 margin the same local was defeated by a 2-1 margin three years ago approximately 95 per cent of the eligible workers voted i don't think the union will make a great difference to the university ot tervik said he said he did not expect other university workers such as secretaries to unionize as a result of the election frank cancelled allied project manager said the election's outcome was a surprise i thought we had a chance allied currently employs approximately 170 workers formerly employed by the university these include maintenance workers groundskeepers and maids one of the teamsters officials now responsible for representing the workers richard hontz said his his first actions for the workers would not take place until the election's outcome is certified by the national labor relations board he said the certification procedure should take from a week to ten days after the election at which time he would begin negotiations with allied officials hontz said he had not yet solidified plans
