including the grade point average proposal as reason for her resignation it's not only the proposal but the reason behind it that's so alien to the idea of a gryphon barr said she described a gryphon as a friend helper and person who can act effectively in emergency situations a gryphon's grade point average as long as he or she is not on academic probation does not have anything to do with being a friend or helper or with dealing effectively with people she added liddick said that after barr announced her resignation there were no comments made by any of the gryphons some gryphons expressed their feelings after the meeting however he added gryphon larry johnson 78 said it's proper attire what better way to get a marriage off to a good start than to take your bride to a football game stephen barron and his wife michele accompanied by members of their wedding party watched saturday as the engineers trounced colgate income source may fall by jeff swiatek because of lower interest rates this year short-term income might not meet its budgeted figure for 1975-76 according to elmer glick vice president and treasurer short-term income has been a major source of budget surpluses during the past several years glick said glick spoke about income from en dowment and financial programs before the forum's administration committee tuesday in previous years short-term income mainly resulting from investments in commercial paper and u.s ' treasury bills have provided surpluses for the university glick said the 837,000 sur plus last year and the 926,000 excess from short-term gains the year before were the consequences of unexpectedly high in terest rates at times ranging to 10 or 12 per cent he said but rates this year have been lower than counted on he said current interest rates of 5.5 to 6 per cent are below the 6.5 per cent amount budgeted to short-term income this year glick said if they continue at that lower figure there might be a short-fall in that area richard spriggs vice president for administration said money for the short-term investments comes from tuition payments that do not have to be used until later in the semester glick said most investments are in established programs with firms like general motors general electric sears roebuck and j.c penney the university deals directly with these companies he said a similar short-term financial operation exists in the endowment fund where in come from a stock-loan program has ballooned during the first three years the university has participated in it ac cording to glick the program has resulted in gains of 35,000 83,000 and 114,000 the last three years he said adding that it has been a wonderful source for additional income in the program the university loans out stocks to dealers for periods sometimes as long as a month glick said income from the loans however is not used for or dinary university operations but is added to the endowment fund he said funds from the stock-loan program go into the first and largest of the three endowment pools glick said the first pool consists of all endowment gifts and requests which the university has corn plete title to and now contains 44 million he said a third pool created by a tax reform act holds 1,168,000 and is made up of funds accepted by the university under conditions which allow the donors to continue to collect the dividends or interest before the tax reform act the second pool now con taining only 667,000 was used for those qualified funds glick said elmer glick editor asked to testify in upcoming fishkin trial byruthhinz david ingram 73 a former brown and white associate editor has been asked to testify in the mitch r fishkin trial by robert j fields an attorney for the plaintiff ingram was asked to testify concerning a column he wrote for the brown and white titled a little hazing goes a long way his column first appeared in the paper on jan 16 1973 eight months prior to the fishkin incident and was reprinted last fall the column was based on an incident at los angeles pierce junior college in which a member of the chi chi chi fraternity died after injuries received in a pledging accident fields said that ingram has until the trial to decide whether to testify hopefully he'll make the decision soon fields said adding that he must let the parties in the suit know who will testify i would welcome the testimony he said but would probably not subpoena him if he decided not to testify ingram initially expressed that he might be willing to comply but first wanted to contemplate his decision fields said as yet he has not replied definitely he added there has been no thought of issuing a subpoena fields said fields said that he wants ingram to testify in order tafind out why he wrote the article and his intent and reasons behind it the article i wrote was not extremely specific ingram told the brown and white its strongest argument was that such incidents were bad for fraternities in general he said he did not have any specific facts about the local situation when he wrote the column he added ingram said he feels he was asked to testify at the trial which may be in january or february in reading for two reasons to substantiate the article and because the fishkin lawyers hope he will narcs conduct surveillance of campus by andrea kaplan strong evidence that there are narcotics agents active on campus increases the possibility of drug raids said robert reeves assistant dean of students reeves declined to comment on how he knows agents are active he said he questioned local authorities about drug surveillance but that they did not comment and have no responsibility to do so reeves said it is not known who is assigned to the drug surveillance and where exactly it is occurring but added that is if drugs are on campus there is certainly the possibility of a drug bust reeves said he had heard a rumor that there had been a shipment of drugs to the campus which included cocaine but added that there is nothing to substantiate the rumor the unconfirmed reports of a large shipment of cocaine to the campus should serve to alert students before someone is hurt or arrested reeves said our objective is to prevent the problem reeves said adding we're not in the business of catching criminals reeves said he doesn't know to what degree the concentration of marijuana or other drugs exists at the university he added that i would be something less than naive if i didn't say i knew there was drug use on the hill sharon drager assistant dean of students said recently there heve been more indications that drug shipments are made she said that the indications were rumors from students some students seem to think the university is a haven from state and federal laws drager said we're as subject to laws as anyone else reeves said having encountered drug related experiences with students at other universities drager said lehigh's problem is not as serious as at other in stitutions but is not negligible drager said we will do what seems reasonable and responsible in a given situation see editor page 9 see in page
