lehigh university brown and white vol 88 — no 12 bethlehem pa tuesday october 19 1976 215-866-0331 mohler against housing proposal if freshmen not assured housing by eileen canzian editor-in-chief harold mohler chairman of the university board of trustees said friday he would not support a residence halls lottery system which did not guarantee housing to freshmen in an interview with brown and white editors mohler also discussed anticipated tuition increases and the possibility of admitting students to the university without regard to sex the forum residence subcommittee which is preparing a lottery proposal for next year is considering not guaranteeing housing to incoming freshmen the sub committee's final proposal will be presented to the student life committee which will then present a proposal to the forum as a whole for approval the ad ministration can appeal the forum's decision to the board of trustees although mohler said he personally would be against a lottery system which did not guarantee housing to incoming freshmen he said he did not know how the board as a whole would react to such a proposal he said however that he has talked with other trustees who share his view on the necessity of providing housing for all freshmen who want it the board has not yet discussed the possibility of abolishing to the university's current 20 per cent maximum quota on the admission of women undergraduates mohler said a draft of a new university 10-year plan recently compiled by eric ottervik vice presidnet for planning is based on the assumption that un dergraduates will be admitted without regard to sex the board would have to determine how the quota's abolition would affect the composition of the three colleges and the sex ratio of the student body as a whole mohler said he said alumni reaction to such a change probably would be tapped before a decision was made but said this reaction would be used only as an in dicator the board of trustees has to make the final judgment he said mohler said he guessed tuition would go up by 250 again next year but said this has not been decided yet he noted that although tuition is projected to increase by 250 annually this a
