lives away dr stanley yellin medical di rector of the health center is also a participant in the program he be lieves that students and faculty should be aware of the dangers of stress we want to make people aware of how stress can cause physical illness yellin said stress can do a variety of things to the human body the accumulated long-term effects of stress have been linked to heart disease ulcers and cancer according to yellin relieving stress is not as difficult as it seems a lot of people are taking prozac an anti-depressant who might not need it some people just need to exercise and relax yellin said a lot of people can be feeling sick because stress can make you itt cristy believes stress buster week will benefit both students and faculty this week there will be free quick and easy ways of relieving stress cristy said everyone needs a balance in life aside from stress buster week students and faculty should continue to relieve their stress even after the week is over i refer everyone to go to coun seling there are techniques to learn on how to deal with stress cristy said the getaway chair at the wellness center is a great start on relieving the pressures and anxieties of work and school cristy said you can go in for a short time and feel almost like a new person when you are done cristy said stress will not go away after graduating from college because stress buster week which will be held from april 25-29 encour ages students and faculty to release their pent-up stress after a long se mester now that finals will start in less than two weeks students and faculty are feeling tired and stressed the time has come for cumulative ex ams final presentations and tiresome theses to be finished with the end of the semester right around the corner stress often reaches a high point stress buster week provides an escape from stress by offering give aways food and special events many events are planned including a fun walk around campus contests free massages relaxation exercises and discussions on stress and the ways of relieving frustration programs will be held in grace lounge of the uni versity center stress buster week is organized by several services and centers in cluding the fitness center and coun seling services marie cristy a health educator at the health center has been a major participant in the program cristy felt that the students and faculty needed to take a break from all the stress we felt that we needed to give everyone a perk cristy said we have to make life fun because if we don't we will be missing out on all that wonderful time many students get so caught up in their hectic lives full of exams and papers that they often lose sight of what it means to be happy organiz ers hope stress buster week will alleviate some of the problems the reason we did this was to say to people that they should enjoy life cristy said not all kinds of stress are bad cristy said stress can be beneficial many people do their best work un der pressure pike hosts dream girl pageant by bradley c unger news writer pi kappa alpha fraternity held its annual dream girl pageant wednes day to benefit the united cerebral palsy foundation of the lehigh val ley brandon morick 95 says it is important for his fraternity to be ac tive in the community it's great that everyone comes out and shows their support it's a good event and every year we donate a lot of money to the united cerebral palsy foundation the pageant began with the con testants walking down the stage in a formal dress to introduce themselves in the talent competition kate wannemacher 96 of alpha gamma delta sorority who came on stage wearing a hawaiian skirt and carry ing a surfboard and hula hoop danced to the song louie louie carol malin 97 also of alpha gam showed her talent by dancing to janet jackson's if in the school spirit competition contestants were given the opportu nity to talk about their sponsoring organization and why they are proud to represent their group sarah stewart 97 who repre sented gamma phi beta sorority was pleased with the support from her sorority sisters they're by my side through everything no matter what the final competition let each of the top five contestants answer ran domly chosen questions amy sobotkin 97 of alpha chi omega who was crowned pi kappa alpha dream girl was asked what she valued most in a relationship and why i value communication and in dependence each person should be their own person and have their own lives and they should be able to com municate that's a healthy strong nual greek week air band on fri day night in the back parking lot of the house john elton 95 member of theta xi and the master of ceremonies of the event said we're running the show with greek affairs it's our event to host for greek week it's kind of our contribution to the week the printed description of the event was a contest which involves members from a fraternity or soror ity being judged on their performance of lip-synching or dancing the rules and regulations were that each house had five minutes to perform one song or a medley of songs to help defray the cost of the please see air page 6 air band rocks greek week due to previous engagements or other various reasons but 32 out of 36 greek living groups took part in the competition making it the second most participated event of greek week malekzadeh believes most par ticipants worked hard to create qual ity acts i thought that people s goals had changed from previous years in the competition he said people were definitely out there to entertain not to make fools of themselves some groups obviously spent lots of time in creating and rehearsing their acts and it paid off in the end the two winners were sigma chi fraternity and kappa alpha theta sorority for their original acts sec ond place among the women was b w photo by karen steele sisters of alpha phi sorority entertain the crowd with a medley during the air band competition event each house paid a 50 entry fee left over money will be donated to help fight muscular dystrophy the pledge classes and senior members of most of the fraternities and sororities came out to perform on a stage set up before a large audience the original performances created by each class ranged from parodies of music videos to lehigh party imi tations to a step show the groups presented their acts in a semi-alphabetical order arranged by theta xi with the winners being determined at the end of the three hour performance most of the houses participated in the event ben
